Coronavirus Patients Taken Off Ventilators and Out of ICU After Receiving Experimental Drug Leronlimab

Two patients in New York City were taken off ventilators taken out of intensive care after they received the experimental drug leronlimab.

At least two of seven patients on leronlimad saw significant improvement.

This follows the news on Friday that the renowned French epidemiologist Dr. Didier Raoult was able to repeat his findings from a previous study on the use of hdroxychloroquine on coronavirus patients.

The New York Post reported:

Two coronavirus patients in New York City are off ventilators and out of intensive care after they received an experimental drug to treat HIV and breast cancer.

As the skyrocketing number of cases stretches city hospitals to the limit, doctors are racing to find out which drugs on the market or in development might help in fighting the infection.

The drug, leronlimab, is delivered by injection twice in the abdomen, the Daily Mail reported.

Of seven critically ill patients who received the drug in New York, two were removed from ventilators and two showed significant improvement.

Turkish-Backed Police Killed Ahrar Al-Sharqiyah Security Chief Provoking New Round Of Infighting (Videos)

Security Chief of Ahrar al-Sharqiyah, one of the biggest factions of the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA), was killed on March 28 by the Free Syrian Police in the Turkish-occupied city of al-Bab in northern Aleppo.

According to many opposition sources, personnel of the Free Syrian Police, a law enforcement body backed by Turkey, were patrolling al-Bab to close shops, cafes and restaurants as a part of a plan to face the coronavirus pandemic when they were confronted by the Ahrar al-Sharqiyah’s Security Chief Elyui al-Sayah.

Al-Sayah, known by his nom de guerre Abu Rasul, engaged in a firefight with the policemen, who killed him and injured some of his militants.

In response to the death of al-Sayah, Ahrar al-Sharqiyah launched a large-scale attack inside the city of al-Bab targeting checkpoints and centers of the Free Syrian Police. The group’s militants even attempted to storm a hospital, looking for injured policemen.

The Turkish-backed group released a statement in the name of the SNA, vowing to avenge Abu Rasul and another slain militant, Mohamad Zarur.

“We are the SNA promise to hold the killers responsible,” the statement reads.

The clashes ended in the afternoon, reportedly after an intervention from Turkey. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), ten militants were injured as a result of the clashes.

A day earlier, a family feud led to similar clashes among Turkish-backed militants in the occupied city of Afrin. At least one militant was killed.

These incidents reflect the state of lawlessness in Syrian areas occupied by Turkey. Ankara is not apparently interested in changing this situation, likely to avoid involvement in the internal conflicts of its proxies.

Cuomo: Trump's quarantine would be a 'federal declaration of war,' prompting a 'civil war discussion'

It would be 'a civil war kind of discussion'

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said on Saturday that if the federal government were to enforce a quarantine of his state and the surrounding region it would amount to a "federal declaration of war."

Cuomo made the comments on CNN as President Donald Trump said earlier in the morning that he was considering a quarantine of "developing 'hot spots,'" including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The president said "a decision will be made, one way or another, shortly."

The New York governor blasted the proposal as illegal.

“If you start walling off areas all across the country it would just be totally bizarre, counter-productive, anti-American, anti-social," he said.

“It makes absolutely no sense and I don't think any serious governmental personality or professional would support it," he added.

A 'temporary' quarantine

Trump briefly addressed the possible quarantine before departing the White House to bid farewell to the USNS Comfort in Norfolk, Virginia.

"Some people would like to see New York quarantined because it's a hotspot — New York, New Jersey maybe one or two other places, certain parts of Connecticut quarantined. I'm thinking about that right now," the president said on Saturday morning.

Trump added the measure would be temporary. "We might not have to do it but there's a possibility that sometime today we'll do a quarantine - short term - two weeks for New York, probably New Jersey, certain parts of Connecticut," he said

According to the Daily Mail, Trump is considering the possibility given that New York now has nearly half of the country's 113,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. In New York City's five boroughs, there are 29,766 known cases and 450 deaths related to the deadly outbreak.

'Civil war kind of discussion'

However, Cuomo said the measure would be unwarranted.

"This is a civil war kind of discussion," he said of the proposal while doubting that Trump was seriously considering it as an option. "I don't believe that any administration could be serious about physical lockdowns of states."

Several states have already imposed restrictions on travelers from New York. For instance, the governors of Rhode Island and Florida have declared a mandatory 14-day quarantine for any traveler from the Empire State. Additionally, state police officers have set-up checkpoints on I-95 in both states screening drivers with New York license plates.

"I want to be crystal clear about this: If you're coming to Rhode Island from New York you are ordered into quarantine. The reason for that is because more than half of the cases of coronavirus in America are in New York," Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo said

Servant Close to Queen Elizabeth Tests Positive For COVID-19

On Wednesday, Prince Charles tested positive for the coronavirus disease, after the heir apparent to the British throne met with Prince Albert of Monaco two weeks ago, who has been confirmed as being infected with the virus. The Prince and the Duchess are now in self-isolation at a residence in Scotland.

A royal servant in close contact with Queen Elizabeth II tested positive for the COVID-19 disease, raising fears for the monarch’s health amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the country, The Sun reported on Saturday.

The servant, whose duties include taking drinks and meals to the queen, introducing guests, handing her letters and messages and walking her dogs, has reportedly been sent home for self-isolation.

“Everyone is terrified, not just for themselves but also for the Queen and the Duke", said one royal insider, according to the news outlet. “If everyone around them hasn’t been tested yet they should be and I’m sure they will be. There is a palpable sense of fear in the air at the moment”.

According to The Sun, the royal household examined a dozen other members of the staff and all tested negative for the virus.

Last week, the 93-year-old monarch along, with husband Prince Philip, 98, moved from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle after another servant at the London residence was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

As of Saturday, the United Kingdom has confirmed over 17,000 coronavirus-related infections, and 1,019 deaths.

COVID-19 Outbreak Is The Trojan Horse To Increase Smartphone Surveillance

The coronavirus outbreak is proving to be the Trojan horse that justifies increased digital surveillance via our smartphones.

All over the world, starting with China – the suspected origin of the COVID-19 outbreak – governments are increasing surveillance of citizens using their smartphones. The trend is taking off like wildfire; in China citizens now require a smartphone application’s permission to travel around the country and internationally.

The application is AliPay by Ant Financial, the finance affiliate controlled by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. co-founder Jack Ma, and Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s WeChat. Citizens now require a green health code to travel, Yahoo News reported.

China isn’t the only country looking towards smartphones to monitor their citizens; Israel and Poland have also implemented their own spying to monitor those suspected or confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus. Israel has gone the more extreme route, and has now given itself authority to surveil any citizen without a court warrant. Poland on the other hand is requiring those diagnosed with COVID-19 ordered to self-isolate to send authorities a selfie using an app. Which, if Poles don’t respond back in 20 minutes with a smiling face, they risk a visit from police, Dailymail reported.

Singapore has asked citizens to download an app which uses Bluetooth to track whether they’ve been near anyone diagnosed with the virus; and Taiwan, although not using a smartphone, has introduced “electronic fences” which alert police if suspected patients leave their homes.

Meanwhile, here in the U.S. as reported by the Washington Post, smartphones are being used by a variety of companies to “anonymously” collect user data and track if social distancing orders are being adhered to. Beyond that, the mobile phone industry is discussing how to monitor the spread of COVID-19. If that’s not enough, as this author reported for The Mind Unleashed, the government wants to work with big social tech giants like Google, Facebook, and others, to track the spread of COVID-19.

A new live index shows the increase of the police state by Top10VPN, a Digital Rights group. Top10VPN lists a total of 15 countries which have already started measures to track the phones of coronavirus patients, ranging from anonymized aggregated data to monitor the movement of people more generally, to the tracking of individual suspected patients and their contacts, known as “contact tracing.”

That’s not the only live index, a company called Unacast that collects and analyzes phone GPS location data also launched one. Except this is a “Social Distancing Scoreboard” that grades, county by county, monitoring who is following social distancing rules.

As Activist Post previously wrote while discussing the increase of a police surveillance state, these measures being put into place now will likely remain long after the pandemic has stopped and the virus has run its course. That’s the everlasting effect that COVID-19 will have on our society. The coronavirus is now classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, and it may very well be a legitimate health concern for all of us around the world. But it’s the government’s response that should worry us all more in the long run.

At the time of this report the COVID-19 virus has infected 458,927, killed 20,807, while 113,687 have recovered according to the Johns Hopkins map.

COVID-19 Forces the World to Re-Think the Idea of ‘Monetary Value’

Western society has long been gripped by a deep seeded belief in money. Trillions of dollars of bank notes tied to ever-growing mountains of un-payable national debts has taken on a life of its own over the years. As the post-1971 years rolled by, society increasingly lost a sense that this human invention called “money” was created to serve humanity rather than rule it, and with that lost sense, money became an idol of worship.

Decades of this modern religion have resulted in an incredibly tragic situation: a disproportionate wealth distribution in the hands of the 0.1%, an over-bloated services/consumer driven economy, increased rates of poverty and despair internationally as well as a dismal loss of vital skills, and productive capacity once enjoyed by advanced industrial nations just four decades ago. Vital infrastructure built up during the 1930s-1960s has been permitted to decay through simple neglect while un-payable debts have reached record highs.

Then like a thief in the night, the illusion was ripped away.

The Confused Response to the Crisis

This ripping away took the form of an international pandemic which has resulted in western nations’ economies grinding to a halt with a new $2 Trillion government emergency spending bill unveiled on March 24. The Washington Post reports that this bill will authorize “hundreds of billions of dollars sent to Americans in the form of checks as a way to flood the country with money in an effort to blunt the dramatic pullback of spending that has resulted from the coronavirus outbreak.”

Governments across the Trans-Atlantic have also announced national interventions into banks and private industry in order to force production quotas of vital equipment like ventilators, masks and other medical necessities to meet the increased demand. Banks in Spain have been nationalized (albeit only “temporarily”) to force finance to act in accordance with the needs of society. In America, the Defense Authorization Act and broader War Powers Act passed by President Trump gives the executive broad powers to take over vital industries if needed in order to mobilize the nation to respond to the crisis.

This renewal of national sovereign powers breaks all of the monetary “laws of the neoliberal order” and with that defiance of globalization, a genuine positive potential for a paradigm shift is visible… but something vital is still missing.

This “missing something” is clearly demonstrated by the continued obsession with money as new bailouts of the collapsing speculative banks have now risen to a $1 trillion/day overnight repo loan to collapsing banks which is added to the $1 Trillion 14 week loans offered every week that will dramatically increase the $9 trillion already emitted since helicopter money began in earnest in September 2019. With the mass panic and economic shutdown instigated by COVID-19, markets have lost over 30% of their value and fears of a new great depression have spread far and wide. Rather than impose serious bank regulation like Glass-Steagall to break up the commercial from speculative banks as was done in 1933, the American government has merely unleashed unlimited money printing. This bipolar response is akin to trying to stop a raging fire with a combination of water and gasoline.

We thus find that the greatest crisis facing humanity is not caused by the market crisis, or even the coronavirus per se, but rather society’s profound inability to understand the source of real from fictitious value.

Pyongyang fires 2 short-range ballistic missiles into Sea of Japan – South Korea military

North Korea has reportedly conducted a new missile test, launching two projectiles off its eastern coast that fell into the Sea of Japan, the South Korean military reports. The launch marks the fourth such test in a month.

The missiles were fired by Pyongyang early on Sunday morning around 6.10am local time, and flew some 230km (143 miles) before eventually splashing into the waters of the Sea of Japan, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

The projectiles reportedly landed outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), the Japanese Coast Guard said.

The South Korean military denounced the launch as “a very inappropriate act” at the time when the world is gripped by the coronavirus pandemic, urging “an immediate halt” to the exercises.

Pyongyang has yet to report a single case of the deadly virus that has infected over 663,000 people worldwide, including nearly 10,000 in neighboring South Korea and over 82,000 in China.

The reclusive state closed its borders to all foreign tourists back in January, as the virus was only gaining a foothold in mainland China outside of Wuhan.

North Korea has recently ramped up its missile-testing activity, launching a barrage of projectiles towards the EEZ earlier this month, including on March 21, when it was reported to have fired two short-range ballistic missiles that flew some 410km (255 miles) before landing. It also fired two short-range projectiles on March 2 and another three on March 9.

With the spate of launches this month coinciding with the country’s ongoing military drills, Pyongyang resumed its missile activity, which had been dormant for over three months.

The extended pause came to an end two months after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un warned Washington in December that Pyongyang would not give up on its nuclear deterrent and would continue its build-up unless the US changed its approach to de-nuclearization talks by the end of the year – which it did not. The talks stalled after the US refused to consider any relief of crippling economic sanctions imposed on Pyongyang, while demanding that it disarms completely.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently urged lifting the “variety of sanctions” against nations such as North Korea, Cuba and Iran in light of the pandemic, warning that they can "create long-lasting harm to vulnerable communities."
