Joaquin Phoenix quoted his late brother River in his Oscar acceptance speech. He rambled forever, which he tends to do, but then at the end he seemed to be speaking directly to his industry peeps:
“Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.”
To me, it felt like he was trying to comfort his peers knowing what was soon to come. Many of these stars are victims of horrible programming and abuse. Perhaps they view it as a rescue of sorts; a big relief? Is that who will board the Mercy ship?
After thanking the industry for giving him multiple chances over the years ("I've been a scoundrel in my life. I've been cruel at times, hard to work with," he admitted), Phoenix concluded his passionate speech with a touching quote from his late brother, the actor River Phoenix:
"When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric. He said, 'Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.'’

I think it was his penance for a lesser sentence. Or part of his deal. He has admitted to selling his soul to Satan in the past.
