I think your overall point is good and intact, but it's not always so black and white. I was in a cult for about 3 years in the 70s. I didn't know I was in until I couldn't get out. I finally did, and when I was free, I couldn't believe I had been so fucking stupid. I blame me for being gullible. While I'm all for responsibility, I think there are be extenuating circumstances in some cases. Keeps me from being too judgmental. Keeps me humble. Just another point of view here.
