Take this how you will, but I know one of the Ruby Ridge snipers. The story he tells is that they were called in after everything went\ tits up with the initial operation. They were fed garbage intel by the agents on scene who didn't even mention that there were civilians present. So they went in under the operation it was only gun toting anti-government types and that they were authorized to shoot them.
The sniper I know was the one that shot the wife. Again, not knowing there were innocent civilians present, he was aiming for the husband as he was making a run back to the house. The sniper was leading his shot, timing it for when the dude would hit the porch. He didn't expect the wife to fling open the door, let alone stand behind it where he couldn't see it. He took the shot, killed her by mistake, and because of the PR nightmare the FBI needed a scapegoat so they went after him. At his trial all of this came out, and the charges were dropped because the higher ups did such a shit job trying to cover up for their fuck up.
So when I hear Barr defended the snipers of Ruby Ridge, I say "Great! Here's a guy not willing to toe the party line and who will do the right thing in defending those wrongfully accused." That to me speaks well of his character, and I have faith that he isn't a swamp rat some of you keep making him out to be.
