Fed Panics As Foreigners Dump A Record $109 Billion In US Treasuries
Exactly one week ago, when we highlighted the unprecedented surge in Fed Treasury purchases which since March 19 has amounted to $75BN per day until tomorrow when it tapers modestly to $60BN, we said that the Fed's record ramp in debt monetization "is hardly an accident: one look at the Treasury securities held in custody at the Fed shows that the past two weeks have seen a whopping $50BN in foreign central bank sales, a 1.7% drop which was the highest in six years."
As we also noted, "the selling may have contributed to record volatility in the Treasury market and prompted the Fed’s intervention. More importantly, it also means that the biggest buyer of US Treasurys in the past decade, foreign official institutions (i.e., central banks and reserve managers) are now sellers, so now the U.S. government needs private investors to soak up the ever increasing debt issuance."
But since private investors are busy, trying to avoid getting killed by a deadly Chinese virus, it means that only the Fed now can fund the exploding US budget deficit… which is precisely what it has been doing, having purchased a record $912 billion in US Treasuries since the relaunch of official QE (hence expanded to unlimited QE) on March 13.

Trump Launches Massive All Out Military Offensive On Drug Cartels
President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the administration was launching an all out assault on Mexican drug cartels using the U.S. Military.
“As governments and nations focus on the Coronavirus, there is a growing threat that cartels, criminals, terrorists, and other malign actors will try to exploit the situation for their own gain and we must not let that happen,” Trump said. “We will never let that happen. Today the United States is launching enhanced counter narcotics operations in the western hemisphere to protect the American people from the deadly scourge of illegal narcotics.”
“We must not let the drug cartels exploit the pandemic to threaten American lives,” Trump continued. “In cooperation with the 22 partner nations, the U.S. Southern Command will increase surveillance, disruption, and seizures of drug shipments, and provide additional support for eradication efforts that are going on right now at a record pace.”
“We are deploying additional Navy destroyers, combat ships, aircraft and helicopters, Coast Guard cutters and Air Force surveillance aircraft, doubling the capabilities in the region,” Trump continued. “Very importantly, our forces are fully equipped with personnel protective equipment, and we have taken additional safety measures to ensure that our troops remain healthy.”

40 Migrants Found Locked in Trailer on Texas Highway
Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended 40 migrants who were locked inside a trailer after they entered the U.S. The agents found the migrants at the Interstate 35 Immigration Checkpoint in South Texas.
Agents assigned to the Laredo North Station on March 30 observed a blue tractor hauling a white trailer approaching the interior immigration checkpoint for inspection. During an initial screening, a K-9 detection agent alerted to an odor coming from the trailer that it is trained to detect, according to information obtained from Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials.
The agents referred the driver to a secondary inspection station. However, the driver failed to stop and drove away from the checkpoint leading agents on a pursuit. The agents stopped the driver a short time later, officials stated.
The agents arrested the driver, a U.S. citizen, for failing to stop as directed.
A physical inspection of the trailer resulted in the discovery of 40 illegal immigrants including one juvenile. The agents conducted immigration interviews with the subjects and identified them as having traveled to the U.S. from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.
It is likely the migrants were held in cartel-connected stash houses during their journey. Smugglers typically pack migrants into crowded rooms without regard to sanitary concerns.
Agents arrested all involved and turned them over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations for further handling and possible prosecution for human smuggling and immigration violations.
Under Coronavirus protection protocols put in place on March 20, the migrants are likely to be returned to Mexico.
