German tabloid Bild in hot water for giving airtime to Covid-19 testing firm currently under investigation

German tabloid Bild has come under fire after airing an interview with an ex-Playboy model who founded a controversial online startup selling pricey coronavirus home test kits. The company appeared to raise many red flags.

“Now, you can get coronavirus tests delivered right [to your] home,” a smiling presenter happily tells Germans in a video titled ‘You have to pay attention to it! This is how a coronavirus home test works’, published on Bild’s website. The announcement might well sound like salvation for people amid the coronavirus epidemic, which has already infected more than 67,000 across the country.

The capacities of testing laboratories have been stretched thin since the start of the outbreak, and lines in front of the test centers have been long. The Bild video says, however, that anyone can find out whether they need to self-isolate in a couple of days just by purchasing a home test kit. This ‘clarity’ comes at a price though, since the kit costs €249 ($272), according to the online startup offering this service.

Dr. Anthony Fauci says that he doesn't put too much stock in threats against him — because there's much bigger problems in the U.S. with the spread of COVID-19.

Fauci, who appeared Thursday on NBC's "Today," said that he refuses to be distracted from his job working with the White House as a top medical adviser.

Fauci, 79, is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Host Savannah Guthrie asked Fauci whether he feels threatened because of his celebrity, and if his family feels safe.

"I've chosen this life," he responded. "I mean, I know what it is. There are things about it that are sometimes disturbing. But you just focus on the job you have to do, and just put all that stuff aside and try as best as possible not to pay attention to it and just forge ahead."

He continued, "We have a really, really, very, very difficult situation ahead of us. All that other stuff is secondary."

Guthrie's questions come on the heels of reports that Fauci has been put under federal protection because of personal threats.

According to the Washington Post, "The concerns include threats as well as unwelcome communications from fervent admirers, according to people with knowledge of deliberations inside the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice."

"The exact nature of the threats against him was not clear," the report continued. "Greater exposure has led to more praise for the doctor but also more criticism."

Elsewhere during the interview, Fauci added that the "idea of someone who's asymptomatic shedding high titers of virus is very disturbing."

"[T]hat person could be out there, feeling well, and inadvertently and innocently spreading the infection," he said. "It's very strange how one individual can get infected and have either mild or no symptoms and another individual could rapidly deteriorate with viral pneumonia and respiratory failure."

Fauci added that it's high time science and medicine determine the mechanism behind the virus.

"We really need to figure it out, because it can be completely devastating rapidly in one person and absolutely nothing in another person," he insisted.

Cop Arrested at Work for Sending Pics of His Genitals to FBI Agent He Thought was a Child

Margate, FL — Officer Andrew Hammock, who has been with the Margate police department for nearly two decades, was arrested in front of his peers at the police station this week. He stands accused of sending photos of his genitals to a child. He was caught, however, because that “child” was actually an undercover FBI agent.

According to the Margate police department, Hammock, 46, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with soliciting sexually explicit images from a minor. He’d been attempting to lure a 14-year-old child for sex, nude photos, and was also sending her photos of his genitals.

As the Miami Herald reports:

Federal authorities began investigating Hammock, who has been with the police force since 2002, in mid-February. An undercover agent had spotted the officer’s post on an app that’s often used to find individuals for in-person sexual encounters.

Posing as 14-year-old girl, the agent talked with Hammock for roughly a month. Most of their conversations included three elements: various allusions to sexual activity, the officer admitting he was aroused and the undercover agent repeatedly emphasizing the age difference.

“Let’s not make age an issue. I think you’re hot,” Hammock wrote to the child, according to the criminal complaint.

Despite being married himself, Hammock pestered the girl for weeks to send him nude images, according to the complaint.

According to federal documents, an undercover FBI agent answered a social media posting from “Playful_guy” that read “feel like peeking and being peeked at by a younger girl.” The agent pretended to be a 14-year-old girl and communicated with Hammock.

According to the documents, Hammock had no problem telling the would-be child that he was 46, married, and a police officer.

“You are perfect and exactly my dream girl,” he told her.

“Just be more open minded,” he urged. “If you’re willing to be seen half naked at beach, don’t be afraid to let me see a little of you.”

After this alleged child predator was arrested, he was put on leave without pay until the conclusion of the criminal case and internal investigation, the Margate Police Department said Wednesday, according to the Sun Sentinel.

If convicted, Hammock faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years, and up to 30 years in federal prison, and a potential life term of supervised release.

Despite the time behind bars Hammock is facing, cops like him rarely see the inside of jail cells for the crimes they commit.

Slovenia: Left opposes border protection amid pandemic

Slovenia’s Left-wing parties are opposing the decision of the new Right-wing populist government to take emergency measures to protect the border in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Social Democrats are concerned that the government’s activation of Article 37A of the Defense Act, which empowers the military police to guard the border, will trigger “insecurity and fear” in the Slovene populace. “The situation with migrants is far from comparable to that of 2015. 13 EU countries, 6 founding countries, called for measures to be proportionate even during the epidemic,” MEP Tanja Fajon of the Social Democrats wrote in a tweet, according to a report by Slovenia’s Nova24TV.

Fajon was alluding to countries such as Czechia and Hungary, which are being criticised by liberals for their decision to enact emergency legislation to expand the central government’s authority to deal with the pandemic.

Article 37A gives the Slovene military police the authority to guard the border, thus freeing up more civil police to deal with emergency measures within Slovenia itself. It also allows the military police to participate in enforcing the coronavirus prevention directives — under the direction of the civil police — for a period of three months.

The law was activated by the new administration of Prime Minister Janez Janša and his Slovenian Democratic Party, which was brought to power last month amidst public confidence that he would best be able to handle the pandemic. The Slovene Left was outraged that Janša has taken office, and they have even called for mass protests in the streets in violation of social distancing prescriptions, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

British MoD refuses to reveal number of soldiers infected with Covid-19, despite moving troops around the world

The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) is declining to disclose how many of its personnel have been hit with the deadly coronavirus, despite flying its troops to countries that have imposed travel bans on UK travelers.

In the last two weeks, the Royal Air Force (RAF) has flown 30 of its planes – built to move military personnel around – from the UK to the US, Germany, Cyprus, Belize, Estonia and Finland – nations that have banned Britons from entering, according to Declassified UK.

In addition, the British Army has put around 20,000 troops on standby, ready to be deployed across Britain’s streets and key sites such as hospitals in an effort to counter the spread of coronavirus.

The MoD told Declassified UK – a website that provides in-depth analysis and news on British foreign policy – that it will not provide information regarding Covid-19 infections within their personnel, saying: “We do not comment on the personal or medical details of our people.”

A spokesperson for the Ministry insisted that armed forces were continuing operations “critical” to the defense of the UK “both at home and overseas,” and claimed that they “will abide” by measures put in place by other nations to “mitigate the Covid-19 virus.”

Brits Warned to Keep Flashlight Handy in Case of Coronavirus Power-Out

UK Power Networks has told customers to store flashlights and warm clothes nearby in case there is a power outage during the coronavirus pandemic.

The electricity distribution operator, which manages networks for 8.3 million homes and businesses in London and in the East and South East of England, advised customers in an email on Tuesday on how to stay safe during a powercut.

In an email seen by Breitbart London, UK Power Networks told customers to prepare for a blackout by “keep[ing] a torch handy”, and “consider keeping spare batteries in a memorable, easy to reach place”. They also advised maintaining a traditional landline telephone which would be unaffected by a power cut as they take their power from telephone exchanges which also have backup power available.

“It’s especially important to keep warm if you are unwell, less mobile or very young. Dress warmly in several layers and have a hat, gloves and a blanket to hand so that you can keep warm. You can also reduce heat loss by closing doors on unused rooms and by closing curtains,” the letter adds.

“If your fridge or freezer doors are closed your food and medicines will remain cold for several hours even if the electricity is off,” it also said.

While the regional grid company maintains in the message that “power cuts don’t happen very often”, the measures described suggested that customers should prepare for more than just a brief outage.

In response to the letter, UK Power Networks told The Telegraph: “We regularly contact customers on our Priority Services Register, to ensure we meet their needs and it’s never more important than in the current circumstances.”

UK Health Service Expecting Just Thirty New Ventilators of Thousands Promised This Weekend

Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) is set to receive just 30 new ventilators to combat the growing coronavirus crisis at the weekend, according to reports. It is expected to need 30,000.

Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove, who is co-ordinating the British government’s coronavirus response, said the country’s socialised healthcare system would receive the “first of thousands” of life-saving ventilators at the coming weekend, but reporters appear to have been taken by surprise after receiving hard figures on the size of that first batch — suggesting either poor communications by Downing Street or a poor grasp of government semantics by the mainstream media.

“Downing Street [are] saying that the first batch of new ventilators, which are being produced by a consortium of companies, will come out this weekend,” announced British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) anchor Jane Hill during a BBC News bulletin quoted in an i report.

“It will include, we are told, about 30 devices,” Hill added, visibly confused.

“We have been double-checking this. But it does seem to say 30. Of course, you will be aware that the number that has been talked about by health officials for the last couple of weeks, that they would like, I’m pretty sure I’m right in saying, they would like 30,000,” she continued, adding that the ventilator in question was “the Penlon ventilator, adapted from existing ventilator designs” by a consortium including carmakers McLaren and Mercedes.

Hill quoted a spokesman for the Prime Minister as saying “hundreds more [ventilators] will follow in the coming weeks”, and conceded that other companies are also working to turn out new ventilators, including Dyson, which assisted by other firms including JCB expects to fulfil an “initial order” of 10,000 machines at some point in the future.

The British press has been awash with headlines recently of British industry and inventors working feverishly to contribute to the National Effort to produce ventilators which the Government announced relatively late in the coronavirus pandemic — with reports highlighting the work of vacuum cleaner firm Gtech and teams at the University and King’s College London to come up with relatively rudimentary emergency ventilators which could be assembled in a short time, and another team even putting together a modern-day “iron lung” which has been Christened the exovent.

The news that, almost a week into April, the NHS is set to increase its current arsenal of just 8,000 ventilators — fewer per head than in the stricken province of Lombardy in Italy — may cause concern that such efforts, however Herculean, are not bearing fruit quickly enough.

However, recent CBP seizure data indicate near-record amounts of fentanyl appearing in the U.S. on a monthly basis. In February, for example, CBP seized 255 pounds just at ports of entry.

UN Wants a 10% Global Tax to Pay for New "Shared Responsibility" Program to Address Coronavirus Pandemic

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has announced the creation of a fund for addressing the global coronavirus pandemic – and he is simultaneously asking nations to contribute the equivalent of at least 10 percent of the annual income of the entire planet to a massive “human-centered, innovative and coordinated stimulus package” that would be administered at the international level.

Although Guterres doesn’t state it explicitly, he seems to be connecting the new fund, which he calls a “dedicated COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund,” with the massive stimulus package plan, announcing both measures in the same press release.

If countries were to accept the plan, the United Nations or some similar coordinating agency would be given the equivalent of approximately 8.7 trillion USD, an unprecedented amount that would be 2,900 times greater than the UN’s annual budget of 3 billion USD.

The proposed plan would effectively place a global agency, presumably the UN itself, in charge of propping up the economies of the world during the coronavirus crisis, placing it in charge of 10% of global income.

As COVID-19 begin to mount, American workers are deciding to fight back.

Jeff Bezos, who is worth $100 billion dollars, has capitalized on the unfair advantage his company has now that many states have forced non-essential brick and mortar shops to close down.

Amazon has been on a massive hiring spree, packing thousands of new workers into its unsanitary and cramped warehouses. The drastic increase in demand and desire for pandemic profiteering has led to employees even in warehouses with confirmed COVID-19 cases to push through physically taxing, poorly compensated, longer than usual shifts. Individual workers must touch countless packages every day, while not being granted sufficient gear and precautionary measures that could slow efficiency. Health insurance or the hazard pay they deserve is off the table. This is not only dangerous for the workers, but it could spread the virus to customers across our nation as well.

A number of factors have given American workers the confidence to stand up for themselves. It is not easy right now for Amazon to bus in replacements, either temp workers or immigrants. The federal government’s new stimulus bill, while highly flawed and fall of corporate welfare, does provide a decent safety net to those who get laid off. The current freeze on globalism has significantly weakened the power of capital and made it vulnerable to labor resistance.

Amazon began as an online book dealer that later morphed into a multi-national monopoly with 800,000 employees. Amazon is able to retain its power by buying out competitors, subjecting workers to third world conditions and few-to-no benefits, and utilizes a number of loopholes to pay 1.2% of its $14 billion in income on federal taxes, despite the massive public infrastructure burden Amazon’s business model causes.

Whatever you think you’re saving when you shop at Amazon you end up paying for in income taxes to subsidize Jeff Bezos’ work force and infrastructure problems. Amazon workers are disproportionately more likely to need food stamps, welfare, medicaid and other social services. In Seattle, Amazon’s presence has caused massive problems with traffic and the cost of housing to double in six years, In Virginia, the opening of Amazon’s headquarters required massive projects to upgrade roads to accommodate a rush of new people.

Along the northeastern border of the Gaza Strip, according to witnesses, Israeli army tanks rolled a few meters inside Palestinian farm lands.

Israeli forces frequently invade Palestinian-owned lands along the border between Gaza and Israel, causing devastation of crops owned by local Palestinian farmers living in the area long before the creation of the state of Israel, in 1948.

Citigroup, an Admitted Felon with a History of Abusing Customers, Is Handling Billions from the Stimulus Bill

Yesterday CNBC reported that Citigroup is one of the banks selected by the Small Business Administration to handle billions of dollars earmarked in last week’s stimulus bill to help small businesses get back on their feet and keep their employees paid during the coronavirus crisis. Citigroup’s Citicorp subsidiary was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, a criminal felony count brought by the U.S. Department of Justice on May 20, 2015 for its role in rigging foreign currency trading. Its rap sheet for a long series of abuses to its customers and investors since 2008 is nothing short of breathtaking. (See its rap sheet at the end of this article.)

During the financial crash of 2007 to 2010, Citigroup received the largest bailout in global banking history after its former top executives had walked away with hundreds of millions of dollars that they cashed out of stock options. Citigroup received over $2.5 trillion in secret Federal Reserve loans; $45 billion in capital infusions from the U.S. Treasury; a government guarantee of over $300 billion on its dubious “assets”; a government guarantee of $5.75 billion on its senior unsecured debt and $26 billion on its commercial paper and interbank deposits by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Sandy Weill was the Chairman and CEO of Citigroup as it built up its toxic footprint and off-balance-sheet vehicles that blew up the bank. Weill was also the man who engineered the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, the depression-era legislation that had safeguarded the U.S. banking system for 66 years before its repeal in 1999. Weill needed the Glass-Steagall legislation to vanish so that he could merge his hodgepodge of Wall Street trading firms (Salomon Brothers and Smith Barney, et al) with a federally-insured bank full of deposits. Weill told his merger partner, John Reed of Citibank, that his motivation for the deal was: “We could be so rich,” according to Reed in an interview with Bill Moyers.

The repeal of Glass-Steagall meant that the casino-style investment banks and trading houses across Wall Street could now own federally-insured commercial banks and use those mom and pop deposits in a heads we win, tails you lose strategy. Every major Wall Street trading house either bought a federally-insured bank or created one. What Weill meant by “We could be so rich” was this: If the trading bets won big, the CEOs became obscenely rich on stock-option-based performance pay. Did you hear about the Chinese Billionaire who bought all these Australian hospitals and now threatening to close them?

Frantic negotiations are underway to save more hospitals from closing and ensure tens of thousands of beds could be used to treat coronavirus patients.

Private hospital company Healthe Care has already stood down 800 staff and is putting in doubt 8000 beds at 34 private hospitals across Australia after the federal government cancelled elective surgeries in response to the COVID-19 spread.

In a letter to staff, a copy seen by 9News, Healthe Care stated that the availability of private hospitals is at risk. It is now putting the pressure on state and federal governments for financial help.

Chinese billionaire Liu Dian Bo bought Healthe Care for $900 million in 2015. Now, the company, which 9News understands was already facing financial pressure, is putting the heat on federal and state government for help.

“We have received no firm proposals,” the company’s letter to staff said.

“Regrettably, this has driven us to these immediate actions.”

Other private hospitals are threatening to follow suit.

Netanyahu shared fake video as proof of Iranian virus cover-up

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared with his Cabinet a video he claimed was evidence of Iran concealing coronavirus deaths by dropping bodies in garbage dumps, two Cabinet ministers tell me.

Behind the scenes: Several hours later, Netanyahu's office realized the video had nothing to do with Iran, or with the coronavirus crisis. It was a clip from “Pandemic," a 2007 Hallmark Channel mini-series.

The backdrop: Iran has been Netanyahu's top foreign policy focus for 25 years. Israeli intelligence believes there have been up to five times more coronavirus deaths there than the 3,036 that have been officially acknowledged, an Israeli official tells me. Netanyahu thought he'd seen evidence of a cover-up.

During a conference call with Cabinet ministers on Monday, Netanyahu said he'd seen a video of Iranian soldiers loading bodies onto trucks and dropping them at garbage dumps.

According to two ministers who were on the call, Netanyahu said his national security adviser, Meir Ben-Shabbat, had shown him the video.

Many of the ministers asked to watch the video, and Netanyahu asked his national security adviser to send it to the entire Cabinet.

The video had been shared by Iranians on social media over the last week, and it was passed on to Netanyahu without any confirmation of its authenticity.

The prime minister’s office didn’t deny this account. It said the video had only been sent to three Cabinet ministers who requested it and were told it came from social media and its authenticity was unclear.

Deploying the same strategy it used with 9/11 to acquire greater powers under the USA Patriot Act, the police state—a.k.a. the shadow government, a.k.a. the Deep State—has been anticipating this moment for years, quietly assembling a wish list of lockdown powers that could be trotted out and approved at a moment’s notice.

It should surprise no one, then, that the Trump Administration has asked Congress to allow it to suspend parts of the Constitution whenever it deems it necessary during this coronavirus pandemic and “other” emergencies.

It’s that “other” emergencies part that should particularly give you pause, if not spur you to immediate action (by action, I mean a loud and vocal, apolitical, nonpartisan outcry and sustained, apolitical, nonpartisan resistance).

In fact, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been quietly trotting out and testing a long laundry list of terrifying powers that override the Constitution.

We’re talking about lockdown powers (at both the federal and state level): the ability to suspend the Constitution, indefinitely detain American citizens, bypass the courts, quarantine whole communities or segments of the population, override the First Amendment by outlawing religious gatherings and assemblies of more than a few people, shut down entire industries and manipulate the economy, muzzle dissidents, “stop and seize any plane, train or automobile to stymie the spread of contagious disease,” reshape financial markets, create a digital currency (and thus further restrict the use of cash), determine who should live or die…

Netanyahu, much of Israeli top brass in quarantine as health minister gets virus

Health Ministry chiefs, Mossad boss, national security adviser, all handling response to pandemic, enter isolation along with PM, who just emerged; IDF head already quarantined

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and some of Israel’s other top officials in managing the country’s response to the coronavirus crisis will enter quarantine after Health Minister Yaakov Litzman was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19, amid concerns that other senior officials could also be forced into isolation.

Netanyahu will work from his Jerusalem residence until Wednesday in accordance with Health Ministry instructions and the advice of his personal physician, Dr. Tzvi Berkowitz, the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.

Health Ministry head Moshe Bar Siman-Tov, who has become the face of Israel’s management of the crisis with near daily briefings and media appearances, announced on Thursday morning that he would self-quarantine, due to the contact he had with Litzman in recent days.
