There is something about this Amazon vs. Post Office tweet that is activating my almonds bigly. Most of Amazon’s shipping is through UPS, they have partnered with USPS now as well, but not to the degree that UPS is utilized.

The United States Postal Inspection Service is a law enforcement arm of the USPS. They are investigate crimes committed through USPS and then work with several other federal law enforcement agencies to build cases for prosecution.

Many people know there are prosecutable USPS mail crimes, most notably mail theft, and white powder or mail bombs get the most sensationalism. The movie The Firm with Tom Cruise had it’s big climax with the character giving the FBI Mail Fraud to build a RICO case against organized crime.

However, as exciting as all that is, after looking into the postal service inspection service, the two main areas of crime they focus on are child exploitation and drug trafficking. According to the USPS, the mail service is second only to the internet for child exploitation and child pornography.

Are shipments through UPS, FedEX or similar services watched the same way? Are there things being shipped via these services that shouldn’t?
