The "war on drugs" was employed as reason to go after cannabis, specifically. Everybody knows damn well that weed is harmless. But they employed faggot-clown propaganda to slander the harmless, natural "drug", that had numerous medicinal benefits known for centuries, as a "gateway" ""drug"". In reality, the only reason why smoking weed would make a kid moar likely to try other moar hardcore drugs is, in fact, because weed itself is completely harmless. Thereby, resuluting in the "user" feeling betrayed by the lies they were told by various authorities, thus moar likely to question what else they've by told by said authorities, ultimately, potentially resulting in increased likelihood that they will then try something worse. Which, those faggot clowns have historically controlled the flow of those significantly moar dangerous drugs, which actually can be very harmful to people. Only it doesn't end there.
As for why corporations would specifically target weed, as opposed to moar serious drugs, well, they are one of those entities that profit off the slave labor loop-hole. If a person is convicted of a "crime", then they no longer have the rights that would prevent another from forcing them into genuine slave labor. People who smoke cannabis are typically peaceful, thus easier to watch over as you force them into slave labor. Which they often know is bull shit, but typically lack the legal knowledge to represent themselves for long enough to be declared "innocent". Which is extremely gay and incredibly corrupt since one of the other "entities" who benefits from this slave labor abuse is the local, state, and federal municipalities, who ultimately use "their" citizens (typically, the ones who cannot afford proper legal representation) for a variety of services that would otherwise require genuine payments for the "job". So, it's really gay. But we're not done, yet.

The corporations also pay state officials on and off the record payments for a variety of reasons, which ultimately get to mold the wordings and meanings behind the types of laws that get passed, along with the typical punishments associated with them. So, in many ways, this is definitely a conspiracy against the public, by the ones who are supposed to be representing our best interests. And when jails also became a privatized business, right away, they too made deals with state officials to "budget" x-amount of "non-violent" "offenders", who could then be used as literal slaves for all the bitch work associated with running these types of facilities. Wish that EO could flex hard enough to go after this type of fuckery, because the same parties who were heavily invested in the chemical & pharmaceutical business, also had role in our fake federal, which has classified this particular plant in the most retarded fashion one could ever imagine, thereby fully allowing this to gone on for decades, while forcing many people to die getting poisoned by stupid chemicals which were being patented then passed as "medicinal substances", which were allowed to be tested on the unsuspecting population, when they were at their most vulnerable, seeking medical advice (probably from a paperclip nazi, disguised as a "doctor", being employed by the faggot clowns)
