It's Time to Track the FDA's Death Toll=

The Food and Drug Administration helped turn the coronavirus from a deadly peril into a national catastrophe. Long after foreign nations had been ravaged and many cases had been detected in America, the FDA continued blocking private testing. The FDA continued forcing the nation’s most innovative firms to submit to its command-and-control approach notwithstanding the pandemic. South Korean is in a far better situation dealing with coronavirus, because its government did not preemptively cripple private testing.

One of the clearest lessons from the current pandemic is that nothing has changed at one of the nation’s most powerful regulatory agencies. The FDA is repeating the same mistakes and showing the same arrogance that I chronicled decades ago in articles for the Wall Street Journal, the American Spectator, and other publications.

Dr. David Kessler, who became FDA commissioner in 1990, quickly sought to intimidate the companies that his agency regulates. A laudatory Washington Post article concluded, "What he cannot accomplish with ordinary regulation, Kessler hopes to accomplish with fear." Kenneth Feather of the FDA's drug advertising surveillance branch boasted: "We want to say to these companies that you don't know when or how we'll strike. We want to eliminate predictability."

Dr. Kessler's heavy-handed tactics battered the American medical device industry—one of the nation's export superstars. An American Electronics Association survey found that "40% [of medical device companies] reduced the number of U.S. employees because of FDA delays, 29% increased their investment in foreign operations, and 22% moved U.S. jobs overseas." The survey also found that "57% of the firms said the FDA had applied guidance instructions retroactively to some of their submissions," as Biomedical Market Newsletter reported.

The FDA's stonewalling of new medical devices was sometimes politically motivated. A 1994 report by the Medical Device Manufacturers Association noted, "It is not unusual for [FDA] reviewers to express the position that excessive requests [for additional information] are made because of a concern or fear about how a particular member or members of Congress will react" to the approval of a new device. Sacrificing lives was a small price to pay for bureaucrats to avoid bothersome interrogatories from Capitol Hill.

FDA employees also sowed fear with a deluge of official Warning Letters (up more than 300 percent since Dr. Kessler took office) to private companies. Once the FDA issues a Warning Letter, it can seize a company's products or get a court injunction to paralyze its operations. The FDA refused to establish clear guidelines or rules for issuing its letters. As a result, manufacturers could find themselves in a nightmare at the whim of a midlevel FDA employee.

US, UAE Complete Multiple Live-Fire Exercises in Persian Gulf Region - CENTCOM

The US and the United Arab Emirates completed a series of bilateral live-fire exercises in the Persian Gulf region, Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

“Operation Thundercloud was a staff exercise dedicated to increasing fire mission interoperability at the battalion level”, the release said Friday.

Following the conclusion of Thundercloud US and UAE units held a second exercise, Iron Union, the release added.

American and Emirati artillerymen followed a fire mission script involving 15 planned targets throughout the month of March, acting as a single unit for the first time, according to the release.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the US military to postpone many planned bilateral and multilateral exercises.

Facial Recognition Companies Profit From COVID-19 By Adding Thermal Imaging

The biometrics industry has never been known to miss an opportunity to make a profit. Especially when it comes at the expense of everyone's privacy.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, facial recognition companies have been hard at work creating a new sales pitch that will allow them to maximize their profits.

Across the globe, facial recognition companies are hard at work trying to convince politicians, law enforcement and the public that thermal imaging cameras will help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Forbes.com is all too eager to jump on the thermal imaging bandwagon, claiming that Athena Security's facial recognition/thermal imaging software can scan 1000 people per hour.

“With Covid-19, you see the problem at airports today,” Athena Security CEO Lisa Falzone explains. “Passengers are waiting in lines to manually take their temperatures, which slows traffic down. With our technology, we can analyze 1000 people per hour.”

In fact, Athena Security has gone so far as to combine fever detection, facial recognition and gun detection into an all-in-one screening system.

"Our Fever Detection COVID19 Screening System is now a part of our platform along with our gun detection system which connects directly to your current security camera system to deliver fast, accurate threat detection – including guns, knives, and aggressive action. Our system can also alert you to falls, accidents, and unwelcome visitors."

As Forbes.com points out, what makes Athena's software so unique is their ability to send out real-time alerts to authorities.

"What’s different about Athena’s system, explains Falzone, is its ability to send out immediate alerts to the appropriate parties, who can then make an informed decision on how to act."

The scariest thing about the proliferation of facial recognition/thermal imaging cameras is it gives law enforcement near god-like powers to identify and quarantine anyone they choose.

SOUTH JERSEY — Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina says a 33-year-old man working as a caregiver in a Southampton home has been arrested for sexually assaulting a severely developmentally impaired girl under his care.

Edmondo DiPaolo, of the 100 block of Daniels Avenue in Pemberton Township, was charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault, Attempted Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

He was taken into custody on March 21 and lodged in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing in Superior Court. The case will then be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.

The victim, 16, has a degenerative brain disorder and is wheelchair bound. She is unable to move or speak, and is fed and medicated through tubes. DiPaolo had been caring for her two days a week for the last seven months.

The investigation began after the victim’s family members discovered an injury to her leg. The investigation revealed that her femur bone had been broken while DiPaolo was adjusting her position prior to sexually assaulting her.

DiPaolo will be prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Eife, supervisor of the BCPO Major Crimes Unit – Special Victims Section. The case was investigated by the New Jersey State Police.

DiPaolo was employed as a private duty nurse by Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services, Inc., Anyone who suspects DiPaolo may have mistreated another patient is urged to call NJSP Detective P. Ryba at the Red Lion Barracks at 609-859-2282.

Calls Mount for WHO Chief to Resign

Official congratulated China for reporting no COVID-19 cases

Calls are mounting in Congress for the World Health Organization's director-general to resign following allegations his group aided China's efforts to obfuscate the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who goes by Dr. Tedros—though he is not a medical doctor—has repeatedly lauded China's measures to contain the virus despite mounting evidence the communist regime has been less than forthcoming with the international community. A classified U.S. intelligence report recently concluded China lied about its internal spread and death toll.

Several Republican lawmakers told the Washington Free Beacon on Thursday recent events demonstrate Tedros is unqualified for his post.

"Dr. Tedros deceived the world," Sen. Martha McSally (R., Ariz.) told the Free Beacon. "Since the very beginning of this crisis, Tedros has parroted Chinese government talking points, even praising the communist party's ‘transparency' during its coronavirus response efforts despite a mountain of evidence showing that the regime concealed the severity of the outbreak."

"At the direction of Tedros, the WHO provided cover for China for months as it attempted to shirk accountability for its bungled efforts to contain this virus," McSally added. "This deception cost lives."

Tedros has repeatedly praised China's response to the coronavirus.

"China is to be congratulated for the extraordinary measures it has taken to contain the outbreak despite the severe social and economic impact that it is having on China," Tedros said in February.

On March 20, he repeated China's dubious claim that it had "no domestic COVID19" cases, calling it an "amazing achievement."
