‘Magic money tree?’: UK writes off £13.4 billion NHS debt amid Covid-19 pandemic

Almost £14 billion worth of debt incurred over the years by the National Health Service (NHS) has just been forgiven by Downing Street, as part of the UK government’s efforts to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Today, to help NHS trusts to deliver what’s needed without worrying about past finances, I can announce that I am writing off £13.4 billion of historic NHS debt,” Health Secretary Matt Hancock said at the daily press conference on Thursday.

“This landmark step will not only put the NHS in a strong position to be able to respond to this global coronavirus pandemic, but it will ensure that our NHS has stronger foundations for our future too,” Hancock added.

The move was met with dismay by fiscal conservatives, who lambasted the Tory government for resorting to the “magic money tree.”

Meanwhile, the left saw it as proof that the NHS debt has been a “a pernicious fiction” all along, blaming it on Tory austerity policies, and argued it was time to fully re-nationalize the health service they say was “privatized” by a succession of Conservative cabinets.

Democrats take action to give illegal immigrants money from coronavirus relief bill

Many illegal immigrants do pay taxes

House Democrats have introduced legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to receive funds from the coronavirus relief package.

Rep. Lou Correa (D-Calif.), alongside Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), introduced the Leave No Taxpayer Behind Act on Friday that would allow immigrants living in the U.S. illegally to apply for funds from COVID-19 economic stimulus package.

Correa's bill would amend the stimulus package allowing all taxpayers to receive economic relief, including illegal immigrants, many of whom do pay taxes.

"I was appalled to learn hardworking, taxpaying immigrants were left out of the $2 trillion CARES Act," Correa said.

"The coronavirus doesn't care about a person's wealth, job, or immigration status," he added. "By casting out immigrants, we are placing some of our most vulnerable residents in grave danger. Every individual taxpayer, irrespective of citizenship status, needs government assistance now."

The bill has 50 Democratic co-sponsors.

Some Democrats, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), were vocal about the relief bill not including funds for illegal immigrant taxpayers. Ocasio-Cortez, of course, blamed Republicans.

"To clarify, $1200 checks are ONLY going to some w/social sec numbers, NOT immigrants w/ tax IDs (ITINs)," she said last month. "Thanks to GOP, these checks will be cut off the backs of taxpaying immigrants, who get nothing. Many are essential workers who pay more taxes than Amazon."

The coronavirus relief bill provides $1,200 to every American taxpayer who makes under $75,000 annually, $2,400 to every couple who make less than $150,000 annually, and $500 for each child.

The first payments are expected in the coming weeks despite mounting unemployment and continued economic fallout.

Top Cop Arrested, Charged with Multiple Felonies for Stealing Asset Forfeiture Funds

Detroit, MI — Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith resigned after having spent 25 years as a prosecutor and assistant prosecutor. Smith has been at the center of a Michigan State Police investigation over how the prosecutor’s office spent civil asset forfeiture funds from drug and alcohol forfeitures. To be clear, civil asset forfeiture, according to police accountability activists, is legal theft by law enforcement of citizens’ personal financial assets because no crime has to have been committed or proven for law enforcement to steal your property.

Civil Asset Forfeiture starts when a citizen gets stopped by police in a traffic stop for example. If drugs are found on the citizen, the police may impound the vehicle and confiscate any cash found on the citizen’s person. The vehicle can be sold at auction, and the money gets entered into evidence in any court case against the citizen.

Later, if the citizen is found guilty, the police can keep the money, often turning a portion of the money over to the prosecutor’s office to be used as discretionary funds. Unfortunately for Smith, the very people who are experts at seizing other people’s assets, the Michigan State Police, charged Smith with illegally using those funds in inappropriate ways.

Smith was charged last week with 10 criminal counts by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office in a nearly yearlong probe of how his office spent the funds. Smith and his former Chief of Operations (COO), Benjamin Liston, were released on $100,000 personal bonds for allegedly embezzling $600,000 from drug and alcohol forfeiture funds going all the way back to 2012.

Yes, that’s right America, Macomb County’s most powerful law man got charged for spending other people’s stolen assets. That’s pretty much how jacked up the legal system is in the good ole U.S. of A. And it’s not an isolated incident. Police Departments all across the United States, instead of giving people back their funds, cars, boats, houses, bank accounts, will actually take it and it’s all legal. Well, not quite.

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in 2019 that police departments should not take more from accused citizens than the penalty for the crime would allow. In other words, if getting caught with drugs in Indiana would lead to a criminal fine of $1,200, the police department should not also take the suspect’s car worth $42,000 for example.

In the SCOTUS case the defendant got caught with a small amount of heroin and the police claimed his Land Rover as well, worth over $40,000. The ruling forced the police to give back what they took from him. Unfortunately, police departments are now apparently dependent on forfeiture funds, actually including them as line items in their yearly budgets. In an article written by the New York Times:

Law enforcement agencies have resisted efforts to curtail civil forfeiture, saying they rely on the proceeds for sorely needed equipment. It is difficult, if not impossible, to calculate the total value of civil forfeitures by local police departments and prosecutors, but a significant portion comes from joint operations with federal law enforcement and is tracked by the Justice Department.

The Prime Minister Of Australia Warns That Life Will Not Return To “Normal” Until A Coronavirus Vaccine Arrives

It is starting to look like there will not be a return to normalcy for a very long time. Even though about half of the world is currently under some sort of a “shelter-in-place” order, COVID-19 continues to spread at an alarming rate. Of course the U.S. is seeing far more newly confirmed cases than anyone else at this point, and that is a huge concern. The United States now has more confirmed cases than Italy and China combined, and the daily death toll in our nation just hit another new high. Sadly, one of the big reasons why the U.S. is having such a problem is because a whole lot of people are completely disregarding the “shelter-in-place” orders. As a result, a lot of them are getting sick and spreading the virus.

But even if everyone all over the planet was strictly following the “shelter-in-place” orders, the virus would still continue to spread, it would just be at a slower pace.

Needless to say, many of those that have been confined to their homes are very much looking forward to resuming their normal lives, but that may not happen for quite a while.

REPORT: More Than 40,000 People Have Arrived In The US From China Since Trump Restricted Travel

Tens of thousands of people have arrived in the United States from China since President Donald Trump restricted travel to the country following the coronavirus outbreak, The New York Times reported Saturday.

All told, 430,000 people have arrived in the U.S. since the Chinese officials disclosed the deadly virus in January, the report notes, citing an analysis of data collected in both countries. The virus originated in Wuhan, China, and has killed tens of thousands of people.

Passengers continued traveling from Beijing to Los Angeles and New York under rules exempting Americans from the clampdown, which took place Jan. 31. Roughly 279 flights arrived in the U.S. from China, according to the report, noting also that the screening process was lax.

Trump often argues the move to restrict travel likely stalled the virus’s advance.

“I do think we were very early, but I also think that we were very smart, because we stopped China,” the president said at a press conference Tuesday. “That was probably the biggest decision we made so far.”

Trump issued the restrictions one day after the World Health Organization declared coronavirus a global health emergency. The president banned foreign nationals from entering if they had been in China the past two weeks, while exempting American citizens and green-card holders to prevent family separations.

Council of Europe: Migrants must be released from detention

Dunja Mijatovic, the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights, is demanding that the national governments of the European Union release migrants from detention and back into the general population as a coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention measure.

Last week, Mijatovic said in a statement that EU member states should “release [migrants]to the maximum extent possible,” given that “immigration detention facilities generally provide poor opportunities for social distancing and other measures to protect against Covid-19 infection for migrants and staff.”

Mijatovic also noted that Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom had already released migrants as a result of the pandemic. She observed that holding migrants in detention facilities is only lawful under human rights treaties when it is certain that detainees will eventually be returned to their homelands. Since that’s no longer possible in many cases given the travel restrictions imposed in response to the pandemic, migrant detention is no longer defensible on legal grounds.

Mijatovic offered no suggestions as to what should be done with the migrants once they’re released, however, other than emphasizing that they need to be given access to accommodations, basic services, and healthcare.

In Belgium, one of the countries Mijatovic praises, The Brussels Times has observed that such an approach essentially releases people whose actual identities and criminal histories are unknown into society without any way to track where they will go. “In such cases, the sans-papiers, as they are known, are not forcibly placed on a flight to their homeland, but simply allowed to go out of the front door of the detention centre. It is to be expected that many will disappear into clandestinity. Since they are without papers, tracing them from now on will be difficult if not impossible,” they wrote.

In some countries, including Germany and Hungary, detained migrants have in some cases been violently protesting against being quarantined due to the pandemic. In a migrant center in Suhl, Germany last month, migrants attacked police, took a child hostage, and even waved an ISIS flag in defiance of their quarantine order, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

Hungary Taxes Multinational Chains, Banks to Fund Health Worker Bonuses

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The Hungarian government says it will impose new taxes on multinational retail chains and banks to boost state budget revenues needed to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Retailers will pay about $106 million and banks about $162 million, while a vehicle tax totalling $100 million normally paid by car owners to municipalities will be transferred to the central budget.

Gergely Gulyas, Prime Minister Viktor Orban´s chief of staff, also said Saturday that political parties will lose 50 per cent of their state funding, saving the budget about $3.5 million.

Gulyas said health sector employees will get a bonus of about $1,500 at the start of summer.

Measures totaling 18-20 per cent of GDP to counter the economic effects of the pandemic will be announced early next week.

Hungary has reported a total of 678 confirmed virus cases and 32 deaths.

‘Allahu Akbar’ Migrant Knifeman Kills Two, Wounds Seven in France

A knife-wielding Sudanese migrant shouting “Allahu Akbar!” has stabbed two people to death and wounded “at least” seven others in France.

The suspected killer, said to be an asylum seeker in his thirties, was initially reported as having struck outside a bakery in Romans-sur-Isère, in the south-east of the country, by outlets including the MailOnline, citing local media.

However, a later BBC report — which did not mention the suspect’s nationality or alleged cry of “Allahu Akbar!” — said he attacked the shopkeeper and customers at a tobacconist before moving on to a nearby butcher’s shop.

Details are still emerging, but it seems the victims who have already died do include a butcher and a customer at a tobacconist.

Christophe Castaner, France’s interior minister, has offered his condolences to the victims — five of whom remain in critical condition — and confirmed that the suspect is now under arrest and investigators seeking to confirm his motives.

The suspect’s roommate is also said to be under arrest.

Two children sue Google for allegedly collecting students' biometric data

Two children from Illinois are suing Google for allegedly collecting biometric data, including face scans, of millions of students through the search giant's software tools for classrooms.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in a federal court in San Jose, California, is seeking class-action status. The children, known only as H.K. and J.C. in the complaint, are suing through their father, Clinton Farwell.

Google is using its services to create face templates and "voiceprints" of children, the complaint says, through a program in which the search giant provides school districts across the country with Chromebooks and free access to G Suite for Education apps. Those apps include student versions of Gmail, Calendar and Google Docs.

The data collection would likely violate Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act, or BIPA, which regulates facial recognition, fingerprinting and other biometric technologies in the state. The practice would also likely run afoul of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA, a federal law that requires sites to get parental consent when collecting personal information from users who are under 13 years old.

"Google has complete control over the data collection, use, and retention practices of the 'G Suite for Education' service, including the biometric data and other personally identifying information collected through the use of the service, and uses this control not only to secretly and unlawfully monitor and profile children, but to do so without the knowledge or consent of those children's parents," the lawsuit says.

Google declined to comment. Bloomberg earlier reported news of the lawsuit.

The complaint is asking for damages of $1,000 for each member of the class for BIPA violations Google committed "negligently," or $5,000 each for each violation committed "intentionally or recklessly."

The lawsuit underscores Google's dominance in American classrooms, which has only grown in recent weeks. Schools are depending more on the tech giant's educational tools as physical classes around the nation are canceled in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

As several states enact stay-at-home orders, usage of Google's tools has skyrocketed. Downloads of Google Classroom, which helps teachers manage classes online, have swelled to 50 million, making it the No. 1 education app on Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms. On Thursday, Google announced a partnership with California Gov. Gavin Newsom to donate 4,000 Chromebooks to students across the state.

GOP Governor Refuses To Cave, Keeps Church Doors Open As ‘Essential’

Despite national media pressure to close down houses of worship, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has refused to cave, overruling some counties within his state and designating churches, synagogues, and mosques as so-called “essential.”

The Republican governor imposed a statewide stay-at-home order on Wednesday as a precaution against the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, carving out exceptions for “essential” businesses and activities.

The house of worship carveout comes on the heels of the arrest of Revival International Ministries pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who held two large, in-person services despite so-called “social distancing” guidance. The 58-year-old was charged with unlawful assembly and violation of a public health emergency order, which are misdemeanors.

As noted by The Daily Wire, State Attorney Andrew Warren accused Howard-Browne of “hiding behind the First Amendment.”

“I think it’s unfortunate that the pastor here is hiding behind the First Amendment,” Warren said during a press conference. “One, it’s absolutely clear that emergency orders like this are constitutional and valid. Second of all, leaders from our faith-based community across this country have embraced the importance of social distancing.”

By allowing religious services to continue, DeSantis is seemingly siding with religious leaders who’ve stood against the federally mandated guidelines – including controversial Tampa pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who refused to stop holding services because he believed his church had machines that could stop the virus.

While dozens of states have refused to designate houses of worship as “essential,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has been outright hostile to the faithful, namely Christians and Jews, threatening to close down their churches and synagogues permanently if they don’t obey his shutdown order.

“So, I want to say to all those who are preparing the potential of religious services this weekend – if you go to your synagogue, if you go to your church and attempt to hold services after having been told so often not to, our enforcement agents will have no choice but to shut down those services,” de Blasio threatened.

“No faith tradition endorses anything that endangers the members of that faith,” the liberal mayor continued. “So, the NYPD, Fire Department, Buildings Department, and everyone has been instructed that if they see worship services going on, they will go to the officials of that congregation, they’ll inform them they need to stop the services and disperse.”

“If that does not happen, they will take additional action up to the point of fines and potentially closing the building permanently,” he added.

Other states, however, like Michigan, New Mexico, Delaware, Ohio, Texas, and West Virginia, have also allowed “some exemption” for religious services, The Hill noted.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, gave a stay-at-home order that noted “‘a place of religious worship, when used for religious worship, is not subject to penalty’ for violating it, a standard that the state had applied to its previous order curbing gatherings,” The New York Times reported.

Wake Up: The War is Now Here in America!

This coronavirus fraud is being labeled a war by the ruling powers, but this is no war on any virus, it is war against humanity. How many obvious signs are necessary before the frightened American sheep will pull their heads out of the sand? Because the general population hides from the truth in order to avoid reality, a governing takeover of epoch proportions is being implemented at a lightening pace. Every single day brings forth more tyrannical measures, and these measures are meant to be permanent. Are Americans really as ignorant as this government thinks they are?

Please look around at what is happening. Consider that this is no virus, but a false flag event long planned in order to facilitate an economic collapse that was already imminent due to corrupt banking and government policies. This might be the reason the reaction by so many countries is in concert with one another, as all major countries have destroyed their economies by monetary expansion, debt creation, and redistribution of wealth, which placed the bulk of assets in the hands of a concentrated few. In this country, there has also been perpetual indoctrination and aggressive war, and these factors combined have led to class separation, division, and enhanced dependence on government. Because of this, control over society is becoming a reality, and this control is necessary in order for those now so powerful to retain that power and more importantly, to expand and retain control of an obedient proletariat.

What has happened in just a few weeks is staggering to say the least, but this top-down takeover is just beginning. This tyranny was allowed to escalate due to fear of a so-called flu strain in China that allegedly killed 3,322 out of 1.45 billion people. That is a mortality factor of .00000229, or to put that in perspective, 1 death out of every 436,000 Chinese people. From Global Times:

So the average number of common flu deaths in China is 26 times the number of deaths due to this so-called coronavirus, or Covid-19, but pneumonia deaths alone as of 2010 in China were an additional 125,000. Why is there panic and why is there chaos? The answer to this question is obvious if any logic is considered. This panic was not due to any virus strain, but to the purposeful political and media hype of a planned event meant to frighten the general population into believing that some fake pandemic was a threat to all life on earth. Approximately 3 million people die every year in the U.S., or 8,000 every day, with alleged total deaths due to coronavirus being 6,000 for the entire season. This is even with what are certainly vastly overstated numbers of deaths due to this “virus.” That is less than the number of deaths in one day in this country.

So what is really going on here? This is a planned takeover of people, and the fake virus scare is the excuse being used to advance a new totalitarian state that can monitor every aspect of our lives, monitor movement, surveil everything, control all monetary processes, behavior, travel, communication, and social contact. This dystopia is already here, but can get much worse if not stopped.

China delivers 10,000 coronavirus kits to Palestine

The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry has had 10,000 coronavirus test kits and ventilators delivered from China, according to Wafa news agency.

The chief of the PA’s General Intelligence Service Majed Faraj arranged for the shipment to arrive from China to contain the spread of the virus in their territory.

“Before these test kits arrived, we only had hundreds left,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Times of Israel. “Now, we have a significant amount.”

Palestinian medical institutions have only 295 respirators – 175 in the West Bank and 120 in Gaza – a report published by the PA on March 26 said.

The PA adds that they have increased their medical teams with 51 additional doctors and added to the nursing staff in hospitals.

PA Health Minister Mai Kaila thanked the General Intelligence Services for the kits, according to the PA Health Ministry.

In addition, the Chinese ambassador to Palestine Guo Wei stated that, following an official Palestinian request, his country was exploring the possibility of dispatching a medical team to Palestine to help Palestinian medics address the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Palestine TV, the Chinese ambassador said that China is supporting the state of Palestine in its battle against the coronavirus.

Ten million Americans declare unemployment in two weeks and all your government does is give you a $1,200 “advance” on your tax return while bailing out corporations with the largest wealth transfer ever, and some of you are still shrieking about Russia and China. Pathetic fucking tools.

Your rights are evaporating, your government has failed to provide the bare minimum social safety nets during a very manageable pandemic, your nation’s billionaire class has been growing wealthier and wealthier while most of you would struggle to pay a $1000 emergency bill, but sure, China is your real enemy.

Many Americans being plunged into debt and destitution. Many young Americans about to start contemplating joining the military. Many Pentagon officials factoring this in to their future calculations. Poverty has long served as a makeshift draft in the dangerous, dying US empire.

Not that it should surprise any American that this crisis has only wound up benefiting massive corporations, debt slave owners, government agencies and the US war machine. These are the real US government, after all.

Keep in mind that virtually everything you hear from conservatives and mainstream liberals right now is basically just an irrational lashing out over their entire ideology faceplanting in front of the entire world.

Governments which prohibit people from providing for themselves without providing for those people do not deserve to exist. There is no legitimate basis for declaring a lockdown in any area without first ensuring that you can adequately provide for everyone whose financial stability is disrupted by this, and if you do it’s perfectly legitimate for the citizenry to resist your lockdown.

I could probably think of dozens of things the drivers of the US government could stand to gain by deliberately letting this pandemic get a lot worse than it needs to in America.

The entire Cuomo family is a corrupt political dynasty and the sooner America flushes them down the toilet the better.

Friendly reminder that more people would trust “authoritative” news outlets about this virus if those outlets didn’t have an extensive history of constantly lying to the public about very important matters. You can’t blame people for being distrustful when you made them that way.

I personally wouldn’t invest a lot of emotional energy in the hope that things will go back to normal. “Normal” is gone forever. Even before the virus the only consistent pattern we’ve been seeing is things getting stranger and stranger. We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

Covid stats paint an unclear picture since governments likely distort their numbers, testing is sparse and many are asymptomatic. To get a clearer picture of our situation, listen to what medical staff are saying where it’s bad, since overwhelmed hospitals are the primary concern.

People: May we please have minimal authoritarian responses to this pandemic and adequate protection from poverty?

Governments: No but you may have the exact opposite of those things.

There isn’t actually any contradiction in the beliefs that (A) the virus is dangerous, (B) mass unemployment is dangerous, and (C) authoritarian government policies are dangerous. There needn’t be any cognitive dissonance holding all three at once; they’re not mutually exclusive.

Contrary to popular belief, Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 was not about an oppressive dictatorship but a society getting exactly what it asked for; people were so dumbed down by television that they voted for books to be burned because they didn’t want to be challenged or offended. New York Data Confirms Once Again - 99% of Coronavirus Fatalities Have Pre-Existing Conditions - 94% of Fatalities Over Age 45! …Open The Economy!

It’s very difficult to find the numbers – as if they are being hidden. The reason may be because the actual numbers of coronavirus fatalities indicate the China coronavirus is not nearly as deadly as heralded by the Mainstream media and the results are similar to flu-like data.

Initial data out of New York show a pattern consistent with the rest of the world – the elderly and the sick are almost exclusively at risk by the coronavirus. Belarus’s President Warns Global Elites Using COVID-19 Crisis to Try to Reshape World Order

Belarus has been one of the few nations in the northern hemisphere to resist introducing nation-wide quarantines and other large-scale restrictions in its battle with the new coronavirus, instead preferring a targeted response.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has expressed concerns over how powerful nations and interests may try to use the coronavirus pandemic to reshape the world to their own advantage.

“I once asked the question: is this pandemic, this coronavirus, a man-made phenomenon? I don’t know the answer yet, but I have my suspicions. Are politicians and others using this situation for their own purposes? You and I both know the answer to that question. You already see how it is used today…Doesn’t it seem to you that the powerful forces of the world would like to remake the world, without a ‘war’ (Emmanuel Macron has already called it a war), through this so-called ‘corona-psychosis’, or ‘info-demic’? Many people are asking: ‘what will happen after the pandemic?’” Lukashenko said, speaking to Mir TV in an interview airing Friday.

Lukashenko has insisted that Belarus’s economy continue to operate as normal, even if this means risks to his political popularity, saying he could imagine what would happen to the country after the pandemic is over if it were to shut down.

“What will happen to us? Other countries will survive. Russia has oil and gas which the world including China needs. China is a huge, powerful economy. America has the [dollar] printing press – they’ve thrown in $2 trillion and plan to spend $2 trillion more. My friend [UN Secretary-General] Antonio Guterres, a sincere man, has proposed printing money worth ten percent of global GDP. Even as things are the dollar is gradually losing its value, and here it will just drop, giving rise to inflation. Where we will come out of this with our [Belarusian] ruble we know,” the president explained.

“Moreover, who will receive these $20 trillion? Where will this money end up? Will it not be a case of the rich getting richer, while the poor get poorer? I think it will. We’ve been pushed to shut down and sit and eat through the small reserves we have. Even in Russia it cannot be said that its currency reserves are so large," Lukashenko said.

"And then, having printed out this 10 percent of global GDP, those who stay on their feet will come to us and say ‘here is a little for you, but now you will do what we say’. That’s how the world can be reshaped,” he warned.

The president noted that he has no doubt that the world will be a different place when the pandemic ends. His main concern now is what place Belarus will have in this new world.

Belarus has 351 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection to date, as well as 4 fatalities. The country has rejected broad coercive restrictions to fighting the virus, preferring a strategy of pinpoint measures including quarantine for people with the virus and testing anyone coming into contact with them. Belarus’s factories and farms remain open, as do educational institutions, shops, restaurants and other public amenities, and the country has not closed its borders with its Russian neighbor.
