Michael Weber

In May 2010, Michael Weber became the Deputy Executive Director for Operations for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Materials, Waste, Research, State, Tribal, and Compliance Programs. In this capacity, Mr. Weber strategically leads the NRC staff in developing and implementing Commission policy decisions and regulatory programs. Mr. Weber joined the NRC in 1982 as a hydrogeologist in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), where he held a number of progressively more responsible staff, supervisory, and management positions. In 2002, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR) established following the terrorist attacks on 9-11-01. In 2006, Mr. Weber was appointed as the Deputy Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR). From March 2007 until May 2010, Mr. Weber served as the Director of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards.

 

Mr. Weber served as a Technical Assistant to former Chairman Ken Carr and as the Executive Assistant for former Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson. Mr. Weber is a graduate of the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program and the Office of Personnel Management’s Executive Potential Program for Mid-Level Employees. He received the prestigious rank awards for Meritorious Executive from Presidents Clinton (2000) and Bush (2006). In 1996, he received the William A. Jump Meritorious Award for exemplary service in public administration. He also received NRC’s Meritorious Service Award in 1993 for scientific excellence in protecting the environment. Mr. Weber received a B.S. degree in Geosciences from the Pennsylvania State University in 1982.
