First member of Congress to test positive for coronavirus recovers and volunteers to donate plasma

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart has recovered from the coronavirus after becoming the first sitting congressman to test positive for the illness. "Today, after being deemed #COVID19 free by my doctor, I was able to reunite with my family in Miami," the Florida Republican announced in a Sunday tweet. He added that he plans to donate plasma to help other patients, writing, "Though still a bit weak, I feel well, & I applied to participate in the @RedCross plasma donation to help those with serious or immediately life-threatening COVID-19 infections."

Diaz-Balart, 58, announced his diagnosis in mid-March after developing a headache and fever. He was soon joined by Democratic Utah Rep. Ben McAdams. Since then, Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Reps. Joe Cunningham of South Carolina, a Democrat, and Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, a Republican, have tested positive for the coronavirus. Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez of New York was also diagnosed with a "presumed coronavirus infection." Last week, the Food and Drug Administration began allowing a new, "blood-related" experimental therapy to help "seriously ill" coronavirus patients called convalescent plasma and eased decades-old restrictions that blocked sexually active gay men from donating blood.

Boris Johnson hospitalized after coronavirus diagnosis as symptoms persist

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was taken to the hospital on Sunday, 10 days after he tested positive for the coronavirus. “On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to the hospital for tests,” a Downing Street spokesperson said in a statement. “This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus.”

The hospitalization was not an emergency admission, according to Downing Street. Johnson, 55, announced March 27 that he was self-isolating after contracting the virus, noting that he has had a high fever and a persistent cough. Before the virus accelerated in the United Kingdom, Johnson quipped that he shook hands with “everybody” at a hospital that was treating coronavirus patients. Johnson later placed the U.K. in a lockdown to try and halt the spread.

Tiger at Bronx Zoo tests positive for coronavirus, marking first known animal infection in US

New York City's coronavirus outbreak has made its way to the Bronx Zoo, infecting a 4-year-old Malayan tiger. The tiger, named Nadia, tested positive for COVID-19 in what is believed to be the first known infection of an animal in the United States, federal officials and the zoo said Sunday. The infection is also thought to be the first case in a tiger worldwide. Along with the tiger, six other tigers and lions have fallen ill with a dry cough. The Department of Agriculture said the big cats are believed to have been infected by a zoo employee. They first began showing symptoms of the coronavirus in late March, and all are expected to recover. The zoo has been closed since March 16.

“We tested the cat out of an abundance of caution” and aim to “contribute to the world’s continuing understanding of this novel coronavirus,” said Dr. Paul Calle, the zoo’s chief veterinarian. The USDA added that there are no known cases of the coronavirus in American pets or livestock, but the tiger's infection still raises questions about the virus's transmission to animals. In Hong Kong, a dog tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, as did a cat in Belgium. Hong Kong authorities concluded that cats and dogs cannot pass the virus to humans but can be infected by their owners.

Welcome to the world of communism/socialism, this is exactly what happens, someone thinks it's their business to know your business without knowing a thing about you or your life. If you had left the kids with someone while you went to the store, the comment would go something like "how could you put someone else at risk." Anon suffice it to say you are damned if you do and damn if you don't. So to those you think others business is their business, I say "NONEYA"
