Japan to launch 108 tril. yen stimulus package to blunt virus impact
TOKYO (Kyodo) – Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday the government will compile a stimulus package worth 108 trillion yen ($989 billion), as Japan scrambles to cushion the negative impact of the new coronavirus outbreak.
Abe said the amount is equivalent to about 20 percent of Japan's gross domestic product. The government is expected to unveil details of the measures on Tuesday.
The stimulus measures will be far larger than the 56.8 trillion yen package compiled during the 2008 global financial crisis.
