Wildfires in CA regularly cause issues in the SF bay area. Large companies are known to keep large numbers on hand. They also go in and clear out stores warehouses leaving none for people that dont work at large companies. It's kinda a perk, you get snacks, backrubs, masks, drycleaning, etc.
They might have been sitting on a stockpile… I'm guessing they didnt go and buy them at inflated prices to give away.
