Equal opportunity (not just by word, by deed) makes a difference. Quality of education makes a difference (I don't have the problem). Not being immediately judged based on the color of your skin, makes a difference (thankfully I pass easily & don't have the problem, (I do have to worry about skin cancer though). Not being colonized, pillaged, and having land raped for resources (material and human), makes a difference. Those patterns, you may have been able to ignore because you don't have them, I presume.
