How worried should we be about Qanon?

"Hello, long-time lurker, first-time poster.
It seems to me that the combination of the coronavirus pandemic and Qanon is a match made in heaven (no pun intended).
I've cautioned my parents and other family members to be careful around Q content. Maybe I'm being paranoid but this shit seems to be spreading and hitting the mainstream with debates around c19 being real or not. How worried should we be, and what can we do to fight back?
We have a virus claiming lives and now we have this fucking cult too. Stay sane everybody."

My father-in-law, who is in his 70’s, discovered this shit. Who put him on to this you ask? His oldest daughter that’s pretty much been absent her entire adult life.
Shit is sad to see and puts a huge strain on my wife.

They will waste your time and make you cringe so much you question the actual evolution of our species, but when push comes to shove - they are unlikely to achieve anything serious.
Neo-Nazi groups hidden inside the military reserve units that have access to large weapons and ammunition, that could decide their time has come–more likely a real world issue we will see.

I'm zero percent worried about actual Qanon. I might be worried about who they vote for, but as a group I dont think they pose any greater threat than the average MAGA hat owner.

Yeah I figure we may get some random acts of violence—like that train dude—but most people won't do anything.
What I'm concerned about though is how much strain this can put on everyone involved, both the qultists and their friends and family who can't use logic anymore. Those who fall in might not ever recover mentally. Whomever is behind this is a sick person. Maybe this is Q's plan all along??????? /s

There will certainly be deaths related to QAnon in the future. At least one of them will kill.

The entire conspiracy is a natural continuation of the conservative movements anti-Semitism and the Satanic panic. There will be a mass casualty event because of this dangerous conspiracy. But because it’s a conservative terrorist it will be justified as “mental illness,” and explained away.

They have a higher propensity for loony behavior but mostly they’re just keyboard tough guys/girls. Just don’t engage with them. Absolutely nothing to be gained by interacting with them and you’re not going to change their minds.

Death cults are scary because they risk killing lots of people around them (see: Nazi Germany, the Khmer Rouge, etc.). Trump’s lack of oversight and willingness to embrace conspiracy theories, combined with the mindless Facebook/chan drones that parrot this crap are both troubling and (as the current situation shows) can do some major damage.
Fortunately, death cults don’t survive without their leaders. The predator in chief is hella old, which is a good thing for the rest of the world (despite his current dementia-ness).

I'm not worried about Qanon except for my family members who might stumble upon it. However, clever political actors can use it to such great effect that state entities will be involved, if only for the fact that this is an amazing opportunity to widen the overton window and apply hypernormalization with devastating affect.
Qanons capacity to cannabalize other conspiracy theories is a new 21st century twist that we haven't seen yet. I guess truthers were kind of the Precursor as that spans from 9/11 to sandy hook and the Vegas massacre.
