  1. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria

(Global Fund) held its 20th Board meeting on November 9-11, 2009, in

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The U.S. government (USG) holds a permanent

seat on the Global Fund Board and works through the Board to make

funding decisions and provide strategic direction to the Global

Fund. With USG support, the Global Fund Board approved $2.38

billion of new grants to fight AIDS, TB, and malaria; took steps to

enhance the engagement of implementing countries in Global Fund

governance; approved changes in the Global Fund grant architecture

designed to simplify the grant architecture and encourage a more

holistic, program-based approach at the country level; and agreed to

explore the possibility of a joint funding platform for health

systems strengthening (HSS) with the Global Alliance for Vaccines

and Immunizations (GAVI) and the World Bank. The U.S. was

represented by an interagency delegation led by the USG Board Member

Ambassador Eric Goosby (U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, Department of

State), Alternate Board Member John Monahan (Interim Director,

Office of Global Health Affairs, Department of Health and Human

Services), and Adm. Tim Ziemer (Coordinator, President's Malaria

Initiative, USAID).

The candidate has failed to be transparent by forcing the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to not report and cover up a Cholera epidemic throughout his tenure by simply renaming a deadly epidemic as an Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) even after the diagnosis of Vibrio Cholerae was confirmed. His priority in deciding so was to conceal the impact a public admission of Cholera epidemic might have on Tourism and image of his Party rather than protecting the international community and attempting to reach out to the affected areas. Such a sad error due to lack of judgment resulted in a nationwide epidemic.

The candidate has treated his own citizens differently based on their ethnicity contrary to WHO’s goal of building a better, healthier future for all people throughout the world. While WHO strives to better the lives of underserved and marginalized communities, Dr. Ghebreyesus who descends from Tigre ethnic group disfavored the “Amhara Regional State” through poor health care. For instance, disproportionately high mortality coupled with selective application of contraceptives use has led to a selective reduction of the growth rate of the Amhara people. Such disparities were created and gaps increased across all measures of health in his leadership tenure. Of particular importance is the unexplained 2.5 million decrease in the Amhara population under his healthcare leadership. The Amharas were victimized and punished due to their ethnic background.

A huge bridge section has collapsed in Tuscany.

Police and fire crews roped off the access road to the bridge over the Magra River in Albiano Magra in the province of Massa Carrara, according to Carabinieri footage of the scene Wednesday.

Given Italy’s nationwide coronavirus lockdown, there were only two trucks on the provincial road at the time.

Italian news reports said one of the drivers was taken to hospital.

The Anas road agency had sent inspectors to the bridge last year after a crack developed following heavy rains.

The section was cleared for further use, Italian agency ANSA said.

The mayor of Aulla, Roberto Vallettini, had written to Anas flagging that heavy trucks were repeatedly using the two-lane bridge because of nearby road closures.

The bridge collapse comes as Italy is still working to rebuild the heavily used Morandi Bridge in Genoa, which collapsed in 2018 during a rainstorm, killing 43 people.
