Meatpacking District

On 01 November 2019 by

After shopping, eating, and a trip to The Whitney, it’s time to plan your night out in New York’s Meatpacking District. Explore this fashionable area where the West Village intersects Chelsea, whether you’re looking for a casual beer or an all-night dance party. Read on for the bars and clubs you should know in Meatpacking.

The Standard

Top of the Standard.

The Standard just might be the epicenter of Meatpacking nightlife, with several late-night hang-out spots at this famous hotel overlooking the High Line. It’s crowded and sceney (make reservations ASAP if you can), but you’ll see why once you start exploring. On the ground floor you’ll find the Living Room, which operates 20 hours a day. Find late-night snacks and tropical cocktails like a Sneaky Tiki here. Outside, it’s the Standard Biergarten for a German-themed round of brew on this year-round patio. There are also beer taps at their Stammtisch tables and Ping-Pong for all. The Top Of The Standard is exactly what it sounds like. This exclusive room with a view has dinner, drinks, and live jazz, whereas Le Bain is the true nightclub on site. In summertime, there’s a pool, but the party lasts all year with DJ parties and hip clientele at this super-exclusive rooftop club. 848 Washington St., 212-645-4646, standardhotels.com

The Gansevoort

Another luxury hotel in the area is The Gansevoort. Bring your poshest friends to B on Top, the rooftop nightclub at The Gansevoort. Enjoy sweeping views out the windows and craft cocktails at this see-and-be-seen spot. The Chester is the hotel’s French restaurant that doubles as a nighttime hangout (until 11pm, at least). Grab a glass of wine and a Burger Maison at this two-level spot on the ground floor of the hotel before heading upstairs for further revelry. 18 9th Ave., 212-206-6700,gansevoorthotelgroup.com

The Tippler

Take a trip below Chelsea Market to The Tippler, a Prohibition-themed bar with plenty of innovative cocktails to go around. This popular subterranean spot serves memorable drinks for the millennial set, like the banana daiquiri “thank u, next” and The Crown Juul with bourbon and a splash of absinthe. Snacks on tap include a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich and cheese dip with Ritz crackers. The site says weekend lines start at 10pm, FYI. 425 W. 15th St., thetippler.com

Corkbuzz

Corkbuzz is not where you go to dance, but where you linger over a great bottle of wine. The Chelsea Market location of the popular wine bar boasts an impressive list of wines for all palates, selected by Master Sommelier Laura Maniec. Pair that with a flight of cheeses, charcuterie, or other snacks at this modern oenophile’s paradise. 75 9th Ave., 646-237-4847,corkbuzz.com/location/chelsea-market

Common Ground

Visit Common Ground for endless pics of the ivy-bedecked skylight inside. This casual bar south of The Gansevoort is crowded weekend in and out, attracting anyone interested in pitchers of margs, sangrias, and Moscow Mules. Spiked coffees and a Baked Pumpkin Old Fashioned are also on offer, and there’s a vine-covered tunnel for selfies galore. Tacos and such are provided by Gordo’s Cantina. 63 Gansevoort St., 212-255-7484, commongroundbar.com

Brass Monkey

The Brass Monkey bills itself as “the destination at the very end of the street” on the website. That title has stayed consistent for years, as this casual hangout has proven a destination unto itself. The bar consists of three rooms and a rooftop where you can enjoy a local beer, a glass of sustainable Sancerre, or a Get Crooked cocktail. Filling bar snacks like nachos and cheeseburger sliders are also available. 55 Little West 12th St., 212-675-6686, brassmonkeynyc.com

Bagatelle

The French bistro Bagatelle serves its photogenic cocktails past midnight on weekends, transforming the refined restaurant into a club. Dance the night away with some champagne or a pretty drink, and if you want to keep the party going, come back the next day for their famous brunch party on weekends. 1 Little West 12th St., 212-488-2110,bagatellenyc.com

The Jane Ballroom

For a different slice of hotel-based nightlife, head to The Jane. This turn-of-the-century location, completed in 1908, has retained its antique aesthetics and invites fun-lovers of all ages to enjoy the ballroom on weekends. Dance on the couches at these DJ’d dance parties beneath a disco ball, and enjoy New York history in a completely new way. 113 Jane St., 212-924-6700, thejanenyc.com
