There's probably not enough quinine in modern tonic water to act as an ionophore and pass zinc ions into a cell and kill a virus.
Other ionophores that might work are quercetin (available as a supplement) and EPGC (found in green tea).
Still searching to find out how they compare to the ionophore activity of hydroxychloroquine.
