Judicial Watch Sues North Carolina For Failing to Clean up Voter Rolls - Nearly 1 Million Inactive Voters on Its Rolls

The Democrats sure love their dead voters, but Judicial Watch is working around the clock to clean up dirty voter rolls before the 2020 election.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch on Thursday announced it filed a lawsuit against North Carolina and two of its counties for failing to clean up voter rolls.

Many of North Carolina’s 100 counties have ineligible voters on their rolls, according to Judicial Watch’s analysis.

Judicial Watch said there are nearly 1 million inactive voters on its voter rolls.

Via Judicial Watch:

Judicial Watch’s lawsuit argues that North Carolina, Mecklenburg County, and Guilford County failed to make reasonable efforts to remove ineligible voters from their registration rolls as required by the federal National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA). The lawsuit also claims that these jurisdictions violated the NVRA by failing to make available to Judicial Watch public records concerning efforts to comply with the law.

In its complaint Judicial Watch also points out that the State’s abnormally high number of inactive registrations shows that it is not removing these registrations after two general federal elections, as the NVRA requires. According to data the State certified to the EAC in 2019:

About 17% of North Carolina’s registrations were inactive, which was the fifth worst (highest) of the 40 states for which data were available

By way of comparison, the median state inactive rate was 9.6%

In 19 North Carolina counties, 20% or more of the registrations were inactive, and in three counties 25% or more were inactive

North Carolina’s inactive registrations remain high to this day. The complaint notes:

As of March 2020, North Carolina’s own data shows it has nearly one million inactive registrations

A large proportion of these registrations have shown no voting activity for more than five years – that is, since prior to November 2014

“Dirty voting rolls can mean dirty elections, and Judicial Watch must insist that North Carolina follows federal law to clean up its voting rolls,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “We want cleaner elections, as the law requires, and we expect this lawsuit will cause North Carolina to take the simple steps necessary to clean from its rolls the names of voters who have moved away or died.”

Bill Gates Pessimistic on Schools Reopening, Economic Outlook

Billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates stated in a recent interview that he thinks schools in the United States will be able to reopen in the fall but that the U.S. economy won’t magically return to how it was before the coronavirus pandemic.

CNBC reports that Bill Gates stated during a recent interview that he believes that schools in the United States may be able to resume in the fall but that the economy will not recover as fast as many expect from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I do think school will be able to resume in the fall,” Gates said. “But I don’t think this school year there’s going to be any significant attendance. You know, maybe in the summer, people will do something special. But that would be very hard to do.”

Many schools have allowed students to take classes remotely via the internet but Gates noted that many students don’ have the computers or internet connections necessary for remote learning.

“Most of the private schools, they’re used to online, they’ve made sure all their students have the device and the connectivity,” he added. “Different school districts have decided some don’t do online learning because it would be unjust in terms of the kids who don’t have access. And so that’s really a dilemma. There are philanthropists — Ray Dalio, Jeff Bezos and many others — who are trying to fill that gap, you know, get some devices and connectivity out there.”

Gates stated that the U.S. may be able to open back up at the end of May but before a vaccine for the coronavirus is available, countries would have to determine which industries would be allowed to resume. Gates suggested that manufacturing and construction industries may be able to resume operations, and possibly education.

“I don’t think going to big, say, public sports-type events, that the economic benefit relative to the risks, that will work out until we’re back in normal times,” he said. Gates pointed to businesses in China and South Korea returning to normal as an example.

“How do you draw that line for that period that’s going to be longer than we want it to be?” Gates said. “That — eventually, the government’s going to have to take all the expert input and create a new regime for what’s going on that’s extremely sensitive to how well it’s working through the quick-turnaround, prioritized testing.”

Discussing the economy, Gates stated: “The behavior of people in terms of wanting to travel or go to events or even go to a restaurant, it’s been utterly changed by the concerns about this disease. No one should think the government can wave a wand and all of a sudden the economy is anything like it was before this happened. That awaits either a miracle therapeutic that has an over 95% cure rate, or broad usage of the vaccine.”

Discussing the production of a vaccine for the coronavirus, Gates stated: “There’s an approach called RNA vaccine that people like Moderna, CureVac and others are using, that in 2015 we’d identified as very promising for pandemics and for other applications as well. And so if everything goes perfectly with the RNA approach, we could actually beat the 18 months.”

He did not, however, that vaccines aren’t a perfect solution especially for older patients: “We don’t want to create unrealistic expectations. The efficacy of vaccines in older people is always a huge challenge. You know, it turns out the flu vaccine isn’t that effective in elderly people. Most of the benefit comes from younger people not spreading it because they’re vaccinated.”

Italy Closes All Ports to Migrant Transport NGOs, Deeming Country ‘Not Safe’

The leftist governing coalition has closed all ports in Italy to migrant transport NGOs, stating that the country is no longer a safe haven due to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.

The government has stated that Italy will be closed to all migrants and asylum seekers due to the Chinese virus outbreak and that its ports will not accept any migrant transport NGO vessels until at least July 31st.

Several Italian ministries endorsed the move including the Health Ministry and Interior Ministry which put out a statement alongside other departments.

“For the entire period of the duration of the national health emergency resulting from the spread of the COVID-19 virus Italian ports do not ensure the necessary requirements for the classification and definition of ‘Place of Safety’, pursuant to the provisions of the Hamburg Convention, on research and maritime rescue, for rescue cases carried out by naval units flying a foreign flag outside the Italian SAR [search and rescue] area,” the statement said according to Il Giornale.

The coronavirus outbreak has led to most migrant transport NGOs keeping their vessels in port, except for the German-based NGO Sea-Eye which recently picked up 150 migrants from the North African coast and has been waiting to dock in Italy for several days.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has rejected Sea-Eye’s requests to dock and has instead called on the German government to take responsibility for the vessel and the migrants aboard it.

State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Carlo Sibilia has suggested that migrants remain aboard the transport vessels under quarantine.

Without mentioning the Sea-Eye vessel specifically, he admitted that such measures would only be possible if Italy were a safe haven, stating: “With an emergency of this magnitude still going on, I don’t think we can guarantee it anymore.”

Before the coronavirus outbreak, the number of migrants arriving in Italy by migrant transport NGO vessels had jumped 948 per cent compared to the previous year when populist Senator Matteo Salvini served as Interior Minister and closed the country’s ports to the NGOs.

‘Crossfire Typhoon’: Here Is A 171-Page Transcript Of Ex-Trump Aide’s Secret Conversation With An FBI Informant

Weeks before the 2016 presidential election, the FBI relied on a friend of George Papadopoulos to secretly record the then-Trump campaign aide during a conversation over lunch and a visit to a casino, according to a 171-page transcript of the secretly recorded conversation obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The transcript shows that Papadopoulos repeatedly denied that the Trump campaign was working with Russia to hack and release emails stolen from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign.

He also dismissed allegations circulating at the time that the Russian government was behind the hacks.

“That’s all bullshit,” Papadopoulos told the source after he brought up the topic of Russia’s possible interests in helping the Trump campaign.

The FBI had for three months before the interaction been investigating whether the Trump campaign was conspiring with the Russian government to influence the election. The bureau opened “Crossfire Hurricane,” the code name for the probe, on July 31, 2016 after receiving a tip from the Australian government related to Papadopoulos.

Papadopoulos is referred to as “Crossfire Typhoon” in the FBI transcript, which was declassified on April 1.

The FBI used multiple undercover sources in the investigation, including at least two who met with Papadopoulos. Stefan Halper, a former Cambridge professor, met with and secretly recorded Papadopoulos and Carter Page, another Trump campaign aide, prior to the election.

Halper approached Papadopoulos on Sept. 2, 2016 to invite the young Trump associate to London under the guise of discussing a research project regarding energy issues. During their visit, Halper tried to pry loose information from Papadopoulos related to Russia. Papadopoulos repeatedly denied involvement in Russia’s hacking efforts.

Halper had worked as a confidential human source (CHS) for the FBI since 2008, according to a Justice Department inspector general’s report of Crossfire Hurricane.

The IG report blasted the FBI for failing to tell the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) about exculpatory information that both Papadopoulos and Page told the FBI’s informants during their many conversations.

The FBI obtained the first of four wiretap warrants against Page on Oct. 21, 2016.

The IG report said that the FBI “did not inform” the Justice Department’s Office of Intelligence about Papadopoulos’s conversations in three renewals to spy on Page.

“The subsequent FISA renewal applications on Carter Page did not include these statements,” the IG report stated.

The transcript shows that the FBI source repeatedly prodded Papadopoulos for information on the Trump campaign and Russia. During one exchange, Papadopoulos told the source that the Chinese government, Iranian government, or a supporter of Bernie Sanders could have been behind the hack of Democrats’ emails.

“It’s all, it’s like conspiracy theories,” Papadopoulos said.

Russia, Saudi Arabia 'Very, Very Close' to Agreement on Cuts in Oil Output - Russian Official

OPEC members and other oil-exporting nations including Russia held talks on Thursday to try to put an end to the crude price war which began last month after exporters failed to reach an agreement on production cuts amid the global COVID-19-related economic downturn.

Russia and Saudi Arabia are "very, very close" to reaching an agreement aimed at stabilizing the oil market via cuts in output, Russian Direct Investment Fund CEO Kirill Dmitriev has said.

"I think the whole market understands that this deal is important and it will bring lots of stability, so much important stability to the market, and we are very close," he said, speaking to CNBC on Thursday.

A source in one of the delegations taking part in Thursday's OPEC+ meeting confirmed to Sputnik that most OPEC+ nations have agreed on quotas as part of joint plans to cut production. "So far, everything is going very well. Most countries have given their initial consent to the allocation of quotas proposed by the OPEC+ Monitoring Committee. At the moment, if there are no unforeseen disagreements, the probability of signing a final agreement is high," the source said.

Two Distinct Proposals Reported

According to Iranian oil minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, there are two proposals on the reduction in output -one calling for a drop of 10 million barrels per day (bpd) and the other 11 million bpd.

Earlier in the day, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Moscow would consider it appropriate if all major producers were to join the OPEC+ effort to try to stabilize the global oil markets, since doing so would be in the interests of producers and consumers alike.

"Immediate and timely measures are needed, and we need to join forces with all oil-producing countries to alter the situation associated with the significant overproduction of oil in the world," the minister said, speaking at Thursday's meeting.

The minister also welcomed the participation of representatives from Canada, Norway, Argentina, Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Colombia, Indonesia, Chad, Ecuador, and other non-OPEC+ members in Thursday's videocall, and said Russia would consider it appropriate to include them in any deal on output cuts.

"We consider it appropriate to increase the number of countries which can take part in a joint effort to stabilize the situation in the world. And we again welcome here today the participation of our colleagues who have not previously participated in the OPEC+ agreement," Novak said.

Russia's energy ministry estimates that supply exceeds demand by 10-15 million barrels per day, and that these figures may grow given the continued economic downturn in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are alarmed by the growth of commercial oil reserves and the possibility of completely filling up oil storage facilities. This may lead to serious consequences for the oil industry and the world economy as a whole," Novak said.
