Dr. Anthony Fauci: We’ve Had a Bad Week of Deaths; Good Week of Data

Dr. Anthony Fauci signaled optimism on Thursday that new data were making the most dire coronavirus death prediction models obsolete.

He noted that early predictive models of 100,000 – 240,000 deaths were already down to about 60,000.

“That’s a sign when you take the data you have and you reinsert it into the model, the model modifies,” he said. “Data is real. The model is hypothesis.”

Fauci acknowledged the number of deaths continued to go up, but that other numbers, such as new hospitalizations and patient admittance into the ICU, were down.

“It is in the sense of deaths a bad week,” he said, acknowledging new record death rates in a single day. “At the same time, as we’re seeing an increase in deaths, we’re seeing a rather dramatic decrease in the need for hospitalizations.”

But Fauci said that the social distancing guidelines should remain in place.

“That means that what we are doing is working, and therefore it means we need to continue to do it,” he said.

He admitted that he kept repeating himself about the importance of the social distancing guidelines, and did not indicate that there were immediate signs of a reason to roll them back.

“I know I sound like a broken record, that’s good, I want to sound like a broken record,” he said. “Let’s just keep doing it.”

Israel Continues Building Massive Wall Along Lebanese Border Despite COVID-19 Lockdown

The Hebrew-language Channel 12 reported that despite the coronavirus outbreak, work is continuing and ongoing these days to complete the cement barrier on the Israeli-Lebanese border to prevent any infiltration or attacks by Hezbollah.

Channel 12 reported that the Israeli move is related to building a cement wall with a fence, and it has advanced monitoring methods, as Israel has completed the construction of a section of the wall – 15 km long – along the border of Israel and Lebanon, which reaches about 140 km.

Pandemic Panopticon: Google’s ‘Nightmarish’ User Location Database Trades Accountability for Profit

America should coordinate with allies to seize China’s holdings of U.S. Treasury and other state treasuries’ obligations as compensation for the one-party state’s negligence regarding the coronavirus outbreak, said Gordon Chang, Daily Beast columnist and author of The Great U.S.-China Tech War.

“I think the United States should seize China’s holdings of U.S. treasuries,” said Chang on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily in an interview with host Alex Marlow.

“We should do this in conjunction with the issuers of the other major occurrences,” added Chang, specifying Canada, the U.K., Switzerland, and Japan. “If we act alone, China is going to say that we repudiated our debt. We’re going to take a reputational hit, which is going to be a big one. Also, they’re going to say that we are an irresponsible member of the global financial system, and that the [U.S.] dollar shouldn’t be the reserve currency of the world.”

Chang continued, “If we act with our allies and friends — the issuers of these other currencies — we can take away that argument from China. We can never take enough money from China to compensate us. We’ve lost so many people. We will lose so many people. Even just if you looked at the the financial damages, China doesn’t have enough assets in the world to compensate the United States, much less other countries. Nonetheless, we’ve got to deter bad actors including China from doing what they did in spreading this disease.”

Chang added, “All we have to do is [have] the Treasury Department and the President of the United States say, ‘We’re not paying you back. We’re confiscating your holdings of treasuries.’”

Washington’s seizure of China’s U.S. Treasury holdings would be coordinated with parallel measures from in Ottawa, London, Brussels, Bern, and Tokyo, according to Chang’s proposal.

Marlow concurred, “We need to have some sort of level of of punishment or retribution. … The word that comes to mind for me is reparations.”

China’s initial denials of the coronavirus’ human-to-human transmissibility caused delayed global reaction to the viral outbreak, Chang remarked.

“What the media has done in the United States is adopt China’s narratives without fully explaining them,” stated Chang. “That is a dereliction of their duty.”

Chang maintained his call for decoupling the U.S. economy from China.

“I think we can cut our relations [with China] not in decades, but in months, especially if President Trump is reelected,” Chang said. “Of all the people who are running, [Donald Trump] is the one who is the most skeptical of China. He’s the one who’s actually changed America’s China policy and broken the engagement approach of the last four decades.”

Liberty University Police Issue Arrest Warrant For NYT Reporter

Liberty University police have issued arrest warrants for reporters from the New York Times and Pro Publica, accusing them of trespassing, according to the school’s president Jerry Falwell, Jr.

The arrest warrants for New York Times freelance photographer Julia Rendleman and ProPublica reporter Alec MacGillis were made public by conservative radio host Todd Starnes. The warrants for misdemeanor trespassing were issued after both outlets ran stories criticizing Liberty for continuing to hold classes as most schools suspend operations over the coronavirus pandemic.

The Times published an article late last month about students at the university experiencing symptoms, which the school called misleading. Liberty University President Jerry Falwell has come under fire for his decision to keep his campus open, a decision that he defended in a Daily Caller op-ed earlier this week.

“Both The New York Times and The Washington Post have taken it upon themselves to intentionally misrepresent and mislead the public about our crisis management, alleged cases of the virus in our campus community, and the course of action that Liberty University is taking to combat the crisis,” Falwell wrote. “They even spread a dangerous and consequential narrative that Liberty is contributing to the pandemic.”

Pandemic Panopticon: Google’s ‘Nightmarish’ User Location Database Trades Accountability for Profit

According to Google, it is generating “Community Mobility Reports” to “chart movement trends over time by geography, across different categories of places such as retail and recreation, groceries and pharmacies, parks, transit stations, workplaces, and residential.” The purpose of doing so, Google claims, is to see how global communities are responding to the coronavirus, which in turn can help public health officials make “critical decisions to combat COVID-19.”

MacLeod told hosts Jamarl Thomas and Bob Schlehuber on Thursday that US President Donald Trump “is saying how it [Google] is working with all these governments around the world to try to slow the spread of the pandemic by using location services to track people. And really, I see why they are doing it, but really this is pretty much the only justification for that technology possibly existing, because it’s the only sort of application of it which isn’t completely nightmarish when you start looking at it.”

“Google ultimately uses that to track us, to sell us more and more things, and it often works with quite repressive governments as well to help them track people … this instance of the coronavirus is really opening up a window into how much Google knows about us and how much these big companies, big tech companies really have a big control over our lives” MacLeod added. “Most people probably don’t even know of having consented to their data being included in this.”

According to Google, the Community Mobility Reports will not include any “personally identifiable information, such as an individual’s location, contacts or movement.” In addition, the reports will only be aggregated using the information of people who have turned on the “Location History” setting on their smartphones.

“People who have Location History turned on can choose to turn it off at any time from their Google Account and can always delete Location History data directly from their Timeline,” Google claims.

In an article titled “Google’s Dystopian Crisis Tracking Could Be Straight out of George Orwell’s ‘1984'” published in MintPress News on Wednesday, MacLeod points out that many civil liberties groups, such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), have expressed concern over Google’s tracking of users’ locations.

“Experts will often be working within private companies with proprietary access to the data. Even if they make all the right choices, the public needs to be able to review these choices because the companies are sharing the public’s data,” the EFF noted, urging Google to release its entire tracking methodology to the public.

According to MacLeod, Google’s data collection may have disturbing ramifications and could potentially be used for immoral purposes.

“Whenever you’re offered a free service on the internet, that’s not the product. We are the product … and this goes even further. For instance, nowadays, the technology exists that Google, for instance, takes information from your Fitbit. It knows your heart rate, so it can tell if you’re hungry or thirsty, and if you’re passing a bakery or a big supermarket, it can geolocate and micro-target ads right to your phone, saying, ‘There's an offer on Coca-Cola,’” MacLeod explained.

“Unlike the government, where we at least have some say over what goes on, there’s really nothing we can do to hold enormous corporations like Google accountable,” he added.

Former Flynn Defense Counsel Covington and Burling ‘just now found additional docs’ In Flynn File

Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s previous defense team turned over recently discovered emails and handwritten notes Wednesday to his new counsel, suggesting that the delay in turning over the documents were due to technical issues since being ordered by the presiding federal judge six months ago to turn over all documents.

On July 25, 2019 presiding Federal Judge Emmet T. Sullivan, ordered the well-known law firm of Covington and Burling LLP to ‘promptly turn over the entire file’ on Flynn to his new defense attorney Sidney Powell. The order was made under threat of a hearing before the District of Columbia Ethics Counsel. The law firm turned over what is described as a ‘voluminous’ amount of documents but it apparently wasn’t all the documents. On Wednesday, the law firm turned over more documents and suggested in a supplemental notice filed with the court that there may be even be more documents not yet produced.

“In reviewing materials in response to the Court’s March 6, 2020 Order (Doc. 174) to respond to Mr. Flynn’s specific allegations in his Supplemental Motion to Withdraw Plea of Guilty, however, we have found emails and two pages of handwritten notes that were not previously transferred to successor counsel,” the notice submitted by Flynn’s former lawyers Robert Kelner and Stephan P. Anthony stated. “With respect to the emails, this appears to have resulted from errors in the process of collecting and searching electronic materials that were not contained in the working case file. The two pages of notes appear to have been inadvertently missed during the file transfer process.”

Flynn’s new defense team is combing through the new trove of documents, suggesting that the appropriate action by the DOJ would be to dismiss Flynn’s case entirely based on egregious government misconduct.

“It’s an interesting new production of documents from the Flynn file. It will be even more interesting to see what the firm has to say about them. We are really looking forward to a hearing in court on all the issues that will exonerate General Flynn,” said Powell, who spoke to SaraACarter.com.

“Meanwhile, the government still refuses to produce the original 302 and the DOJ memo of January 30, 2017 that exonerated him of any Russia issue, and it still refuses to dismiss the case because of the egregious government misconduct from the inception of this persecution—including slipping an FBI Agent secretly into a presidential briefing in August 2016—before the election—to collect information on nominee Trump and General Flynn,” she added. “The country and Justice would be best served if the DOJ would take responsibility for these outrageous actions and the deliberate attempted destruction of an honorable man. The agents who interviewed him knew he was honest with them. They later altered the 302 until it was approved by Andrew McCabe.”

Last week, a status report was filed by prosecutors to delay the anticipated April 3 status report hearing to April 24. Justice Department prosecutors contend that the documents provided by Flynn’s former legal counsel “are voluminous, span numerous topics that arose during Covington’s 30-month representation of Mr. Flynn, and include many pages of sometimes difficult-to-decipher handwritten notes.”

“The government needs additional time to digest this information and any additional information that Covington may provide,” the status report stated.

“In order to allow the government adequate time to review the materials that have been produced and to request, receive, and review any follow-up information or documents, the government respectfully asks this Court to allow the government three additional weeks to provide a further status update and, if feasible, a proposed briefing schedule,” the prosecutors stated.
