High-energy UV light eliminates viruses from the inside out by passing through their outer protein coating and destroying their DNA, rendering them neutral. Like heat, UV radiation also helps to eliminate bacteria. However, most air purification systems that rely on UV light to kill viruses use it in conjunction with other means of removing harmful contaminants. A good example of such a combination system in the Field Controls TRIO medical grade air purifier, which uses UV light as just one of its four stages of purification technology.

UVGI devices can produce strong enough UVC light in circulating air or water systems to make them inhospitable environments to microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, molds and other pathogens. UVGI can be coupled with a filtration system to sanitize air and water.

It used to be thought that UV disinfection was more effective for bacteria and viruses, which have more-exposed genetic material, than for larger pathogens that have outer coatings or that form cyst states (e.g., Giardia) that shield their DNA from UV light.

I've never seen a purple cow and NEVER hope to see one

But I can tell you ANYHOW….. I'd rather SEE than BE one
