Logically thinking, when a prosecutor has overwhelming evidence of someone's crimes, they prosecute them. Sitting on evidence, waiting around until a certain point in time to pull the proverbial trigger because it is politically advantageous to some given party taints the prosecution. It makes the prosecution political, rather than justice served. Savvy?
