Welcome Ausfag, good to see you!

You say your relations are newfound and that's great - well done. I imagine that Aus society is similar to American. Strangers are welcomed as friends until they prove otherwise. Sadly, it's the opposite in the UK and it can take years for people to be accepted as friends, even newfound family. It's nothing personal, just the way we are.

We have been programmed for years to accept our MSM as trustworthy purveyors of gospel truth. My younger brother is a lovely man, honest as the day is long, has never rebelled against anything or anyone in his life. Just says "I don't believe in conspiracy theories" and thinks I'm losing my marbles. I thought I'd found a way through the other day, but he found "proof" that I was wrong. All I can do, I think, is be supportive when the truth comes out, bite my tongue and resist the urge to say I was telling him so!.

Perhaps you can build the bonds with your "new" family by exploring your family tree together? Gather as much information as you can from the older members, while you can, I hope they'll be happy to tell YOU stuff. Then, when the time comes, sympathise and support. Good luck.
