I've been reading a very old book, The Conquest of Mexico from 1843. One of the footnotes says the following, "…The Mexicans, according to Clavigero, believed in an evil Spirit, the enemy of the human race, whose barbarous name signified "Rational Owl…the Devil being embroidered on the dresses of the Columbus's Indians, in the likeness of the owl."

Might be something worth looking into with all the Cartel action in SA.
