He declared the "organizing principle" to be liberty (admittedly a nice thing to have) for all, subject to judgment only by the content of character not by color of skin.

It's pretty thin material, leaving many questions are left begging. Character judged by what standard? Being gay is OK? What sins aren't OK?

If those are his organizing principles for the republic, God is noticeably absent.

He said, in the USA, it matters not what you believe or if you believe at all.

But the Founders of the USA had something very different in mind. Here's John Adams:

"โ€ฆBecause We have no Government armed with Power capable of contending with human Passions unbridled by <[. . .]morality and Religion. Avarice, Ambition <and> Revenge or Galantry, would break the strongest Cords of our Constitution as a Whale goes through a Net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Thus, the general is speaking of something other than the Constitutional Republic that I was taught to pledge allegiance to.

But hey, play some stirring music and post it on twat and - voila - America's been redefined.

I have not had that experience in nearly 20 years of practicing Catholicism, nor have I heard of any Catholic acquaintances experiencing anything like it, or knowing or even having heard of anyone who has.

I realize that it is not wise to codify Adams' remark into law โ€“ that would defeat the purpose of limited government โ€“ but it nevertheless must be identified as the the spirit of the Constitution and precisely because it should NOT be codified into law, it must be expounded from every pulpit.
