Calls for Central Planning in the COVID-19 Panic Are like the Calls for the "War Socialism" of Old

In dark hours, when people fear for their lives, they eagerly deliver their freedom to the state. Many want the government take control of their lives, because they think it will be better for them. Ludwig von Mises has written extensively about the erroneous belief that in an emergency the state must take control of the economy because the market economy supposedly fails. Specifically, Mises dealt with this subject in his writings on war socialism.

In Human Action, he writes about the reasoning in favor of state planning:

The market economy, say the socialists and the interventionists, is at best a system that may be tolerated in peacetime. But when war comes, such indulgence is impermissible. It would jeopardize the vital interests of the nation for the sole benefit of the selfish concerns of capitalists and entrepreneurs. War, and in any case modern total war, peremptorily requires government control of business.” (1998, p. 821).

In Nation, State, and Economy Mises similarly remarks:

So-called war socialism has been regarded as sufficiently argued for and justified with reference mostly to the emergency created by war. In war, the inadequate free economy supposedly cannot be allowed to exist any longer; into its place must step something more perfect, the administered economy. (2006, p. 117).

The similarity between the reasoning in favor of war socialism and the arguments that have been brought forward during the corona emergency is striking. Today war rhetoric abounds. Emanuel Macron explicitly stated, “We're at war,” and sent, as in Spain, the military to the streets. US president Donald Trump similarly speaks of “Our Big War” and invokes the wartime authority of the Defense Production Act. We hear the slogan “We are in this together” all the time.

Mises discusses German war socialism during the First World War in detail. He points out that Emperor Wilhelm II basically lost all powers to the General Staff. General Ludendorff “became virtually omnipotent dictator,” he explains in Omnipotent Government (1985, p. 42), and subordinated everything to the war effort.

Winning the war was thought to be the outstanding goal, which could only be achieved by centralizing all powers. These powers were given to the military. After all, they were the experts in military matters.

One World Governance and the Council on Foreign Relations.“We Shall have World Government… by Conquest or Consent.”

First published by Global Research on August 18, 2016. The 2016 insights of Joachim Hagopian shed light on what is unfolding today. A diabolical movement towards World Governance?

***

New World Order propaganda rules and shapes the world. And there’s no more powerful propagator of propaganda that rules and shapes US global hegemony, world events and major geopolitical developments than the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). On its own website, the CFR describes itself as “an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher.”Two weeks ago the powerful organization celebrated its 95thanniversary since it’s been the most influential force dictating US foreign policy throughout the 20th century chauvinistically called “the American century” right into the present 21st aptly called the New World Order century. The CFR is financed by highly endowed, tax exempt Rockefeller, Ford and Carnegie foundations.

The Bilderberg and CFR’s chosen member to become America’s next presidential puppet – Hillary Clinton – [2016] made no bones about whom she takes her NW Orders from:

I [Hillary Clinton] am delighted to be here in these new headquarters. I have been often to, I guess, the mother ship in New York City, but it’s good to have an outpost of the Council right here down the street from the State Department. We get a lot of advice from the Council, so this will mean I won’t have as far to go to be told what we should be doing and how we should think about the future. (emphasis added)

In 1950 the son of one of the Council on Foreign Relations’ founders, James Warburg emphatically decreed to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee,

“We shall have world government whether or not you like it – by conquest or consent.”

From its very outset the CFR as the US elite’s most public face subversively promoting New World Order has always maintained one explicit purpose – to bring about a one world government. In 1975 powerful CFR insider and former Judge Advocate General of the US Navy Admiral Chester Ward wrote in his book entitled Kissinger on the Couch about the ultimate aim of the Council on Foreign Relations:

[The CFR has as a goal] submergence of US sovereignty and national independence into an all-powerful one-world government… this lust to surrender the sovereignty and independence of the United States is pervasive throughout most of the membership… In the entire CFR lexicon, there is no term of revulsion carrying a meaning so deep as ‘America First.’

Nearly all the top military generals (two active members were my West Point roommates) and admirals, major corporate CEO’s and numerous government leaders in all three branches have been circulating through the revolving turnstile in and out of the public sector as prominent Council on Foreign Relations members. They represent the shadowy government where secrecy rules from behind the scenes. That said, it’s a matter of public record that virtually every Secretary of Defense has been a CFR lifer.

Since 1940 every Secretary of State but one has been on the CFR and/or Trilateral Commission, and a majority of Secretaries of Treasury as well. Multiple CIA directors have been in the CFR. For eight decades nearly every key National Security and Foreign Policy Advisor are/were members. And of course a significant number of US presidents and VP’s have been CFR members. Regardless of what party happens to occupy the White House, an intransigent fixture operating at the highest echelons of power in Washington over the last century has been strategically assigned CFR plants. The CFR’s interlocking marriage between the private corporate sector and the public government sector is largely responsible for today’s lopsided world of harsh gross disparities.

As cases in point, the 62 richest people on earth possess more wealth than the majority of the 7.3 billion humans currently inhabiting the planet. The wealthiest 1% own more than the rest of the world combined and the global inequality gap between the rich and poor is widening at the fastest rate seen since the 19th century.

These alarming facts bear the result that the ruling elite owns and controls all the Fortune 500 transnational corporations, through backroom bribery deals owns and controls virtually every national government on earth, and only six oligarchs own the six top mega-media corporations controlling the outflow of over 90% of the world’s news and information.

NYT Deletes Tweet, Stealth-Edits Article After Excusing Biden Sexual Misconduct

The New York Times, which tried to sabotage Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's career with months of baseless #MeToo allegations - not only downplayed Joe Biden's well-documented history of unwanted physical contact with women on Sunday, they cast extreme doubt on a detailed sexual assault allegation by former Biden staffer Tara Reade

The original article, which can be seen in the Wayback Machine reads: "No other allegation about sexual assault surfaced in the course of reporting, nor did any former Biden staff members corroborate any details of Ms. Reade’s allegation. The Times found no pattern of sexual misconduct by Mr. Biden, beyond the hugs, kisses and touching that women previously said made them uncomfortable."

Which they also tweeted, and have since deleted:

The current, stealth-edited version now reads: "No other allegation about sexual assault surfaced in the course of reporting, nor did any former Biden staff members corroborate any details of Ms. Reade’s allegation. The Times found no pattern of sexual misconduct by Mr. Biden."

Reade filed a police report against Biden with the Washington D.C. police alleging that the former Vice President (and then Senator) forcibly penetrated her without consent in 1993. She does not reference Biden by name in the complaint, which the Biden campaign has strongly denied.

The Times, meanwhile, had the audacity to write: "Filing a false police report may be punishable by a fine and imprisonment."

Look at how the Times framed Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford - whose allegations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a gathering in the mid 1980s were refuted by every single person at the party.

In short, "believe all women" unless they're accusing a Democratic presidential candidate of sexual assault.

Former Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron passes away of coronavirus

Hospital reports rabbi's condition deteriorated throughout the day and despite resuscitation efforts, doctors had to pronounce his death; DM Bennett eulogizes rabbi as 'man of kindness and generosity'

Former Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron has passed away Sunday night at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem due to complications of the novel coronavirus.

Shaare Zedek Hospital said: "The condition of the rabbi, who suffered from complex underlying health issues, deteriorated throughout the day and despite many resuscitation efforts, the doctors had to pronounce him dead."

Following Bakshi Doron's hospitalization, his bureau chief Avi Sheetrit said: "The rabbi was one of the first to order his synagogue closed, even before Purim, before any decisions were taken."

Sheetrit said the rabbi's sons had been with him constantly at the hospital.

Bakshi-Doron served as Israel's chief Sephardi rabbi, also known as Rishon LeZion, between the years 1993 and 2003. He passed away at the age of 79 and became Israel's 104th victim of the virus since the country's first COVID-19-related fatality was recorded last month.

Defense Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday night paid tribute to the former chief rabbi calling him "a man of kindness and generosity."

He also sent condolences to the rabbi's family saying that, "The whole of Israel embraces you."

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, who heads the Sephardi ultra-Orthodox party Shas, also paid tribute to the late rabbi.

"Rabbi Bakshi Doron was a greatly wise student, a guide to many of the people of Israel and his passing is a great blow," he said. "It is very great pain and a great loss to the people of Israel."

Turkey’s Erdogan rejects interior minister’s resignation after last-minute curfew announcement triggers chaos

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected resignation of his interior minister after the latter took responsibility for mass panic that saw thousands swarming shops across Turkey ahead of a 48-hour curfew.

"The minister submitted his resignation to the President and the President has informed him that he did not approve that request. The interior minister's resignation has not been accepted. He shall continue to perform his duties,” the Turkish President’s office said in a statement late Sunday - two days after an eleventh-hour decision by interior minister Suleyman Soylu to impose a 2-day curfew caused an estimated 250,000 people across the nation to flood stores and bakeries in a last-ditch effort to stock up on food and other essential supplies.

In his statement, Erdogan praised Soylu - a hugely popular figure in the country - for his response to the coronavirus pandemic as well as for leading the fight against domestic terrorism.

"Süleyman Soylu… has gained the appreciation of our nation with his successful work so far," the statement read.

The scenes of street brawls breaking out in the wake of the curfew announcement that came within mere hours before it was to come into effect on Friday midnight has drawn backlash, with some arguing that Soylu’s timing of the move helped the spread of the virus, instead of stopping it in its tracks.

Soylu then took full responsibility for the blunder, saying he was stepping down pending a nod from the Turkish leader.

“I should not have caused such scenes in this incident, the responsibility for which is on me,” he said.

As the news of Erdogan rejecting Soylu’s resignation spread, impromptu celebrations erupted, with videos shared on social media showing people clapping and cheering from their balconies. Cars were seen honking their horns on the streets, as drivers joined in the celebratory mood.

UK Spy Agencies Predict More Assertive China Post-Coronavirus

Successfully coping with the COVID-19 outbreak in recent months, Beijing set about restarting its massive economy a month ago. The rest of the world, meanwhile, remains on lockdown with economies virtually shut down, and hasn’t even begun to play catchup.

Britain’s domestic counterintelligence agency MI5 and its foreign intelligence cousin MI6 want London to reassess its relationship with China once the coronavirus crisis is over, and to consider methods to reduce Chinese access to the country’s high tech industries and education, the Guardian has reported, citing a source in Whitehall said to be familiar with discussions on the matter.

Specifically, the agencies wants No 10 to consider ways to restrict China’s ability to buy up UK high-tech firms, reduce Chinese students’ access to research at the country’s universities, and take other, similar measures.

According to the newspaper, MI5 and MI6 also fear that China may become “more assertive” in defending its political and economic model once the pandemic is over.

The Whitehall source sums up the measures that need to be taken as a need to protect “the crown jewels” of British technology, research and innovation, including in the fields of digital communications and AI, and to diversify its 6G and 7G infrastructure purchases when it’s time to do so, presumably in the decades to come.

China, which became the first country in the world to shut down wide swathes of its economy earlier this year as the COVID-19 crisis turned into a pandemic, began reporting signs of economic recovery last month as quarantines were lifted and people and industries were allowed to get back to work. Last week, the country’s statistical bureau reported that the Purchasing Manager’s Index on industrial activity hit 52 points in March, up from 35.7 in February (anything below 50 on the scale indicates a contraction). The country also reported that some 96.6 percent of its large and medium-sized enterprises are back to work, up from just 17.7 percent in February. China has also dropped out of the top five nations in total COVID-19 cases, reporting a total of 83,100+ cases and 3,343 deaths as of Sunday, with cases plateauing throughout the month of March.

In Europe, and most of the rest of the world, things look a little less optimistic for the moment, with most countries maintaining lockdowns, and COVID-19 cases continuing to rise. Last week, European economic giants France and Germany, as well as Italy and Spain, all reported a dramatic collapse in economic activity, and the composite services and manufacturing PMI dropping from 51.6 in February to 29.7 in March. Across the Channel, the UK reported a similar drop, from 53.2 to 34.5 during this period. While the lockdowns remain in place, countries are eating through their savings, or adding to their national debts, as more and more people become lose their jobs and require economic assistance to get through the crisis.
