A New York state assemblywoman indicted on fraud charges in January resigned Monday from the Legislature, her attorney said.
Pamela Harris, a Brooklyn Democrat, was accused earlier this year of stealing city and federal funds meant for superstorm Sandy victims and programs to aid vulnerable youth. She has pleaded not guilty.
In a letter to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on Monday, Ms. Harris resigned effective immediately, saying “recent events” have interfered with her ability to do the job.
“It has been a privilege to serve the people of my district,” she wrote.
