Another effective method I've used is to ask the following. "What percentage of what goes on in our government do you really think the public is really aware of?" They will inevitably reply with something less than 20% (reality is it's less than 2%). Then I ask them "With so much hidden from us, how can anyone NOT question the potential for widespread corruption that cuts across both parties?" This at least opens a few eyes.
