White House Leaks Draft Plan To Reopen American Economy

As President Trump declared that he would leave the process of reopening the economy up to the states (with input from federal officials, of course), the Washington Post was releasing a 'leaked' report outlining a plan drafted by CDC and FDA that's essentially a guide for local officials about how to go about reopening the economy.

And in contrast to the 'guidelines' released by the governors of California and Oregon, which seemed to imply that the process of reopening the economy could take as long as the rest of the year, if not longer, the administration plan offers a somewhat more realistic timetable.

The plan has been seen and discussed by members of the White House coronavirus task force. But remember, this is only a piece of what is supposed to be a more comprehensive framework that each governor can adjust to their liking. A federal official who spoke on the condition of anonymity with WaPo said the final plan will have 8 parts; this document represents only 2 of them.

The first part of the phased reopening would focus on schools, daycares and places where "children are cared for."

The plan lays out three-phases: Preparing the nation to reopen with a national communication campaign and community readiness assessment until May 1. Then, the effort, through May 15, would involve ramping up manufacturing of testing kits and personal protective equipment and increasing emergency funding. Then staged reopenings would begin, depending on local conditions. The plan does not give specific dates for reopenings but specified "not before May 1."

The first priority, according to the CDC response document, is to "reopen community settings where children are cared for, including K-12 schools, daycares, and locally attended summer camps, to allow the workforce to return to work. Other community settings will follow with careful monitoring for increased transmission that exceeds the public health and health care systems."

The process of a managed reopening will take much longer than 30 days: in fact, the administration expects there will be "some level" of government involvement until a vaccine is finally developed.

The document also says that during phased reopenings, it is critical to strictly follow recommendations on hand-washing and wearing face coverings in group settings.

The plan also carries this warning: “Models indicate 30-day shelter in place followed by 180 day lifting of all mitigation results in large rebound curve - some level of mitigation will be needed until vaccines or broad community immunity is achieved for recovering communities.”

A tiered approach is outlined in the document: a "moderate exposure" phase-in for former "hotspots" like New York" and a "low exposure" plan that will take things back to normal more quickly in communities where the virus never really spread widely. In the "moderate" track, schools could reopen, but with certain social distancing rules like no sports, and no assemblies.

Earlier it was reported Pelosi said Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis was “almost sinful.”

‘Presumed Covid-19’: NYC corona-deaths suddenly soar past 10,000 after over 3,700 victims added to list on PROBABLE grounds

Coronavirus deaths in New York City have spiked by over 3,700 after officials tacked on a group of victims merely suspected of having the virus. The city joins a growing list of sites counting “probable” cases as infected.

The additional deaths – 3,778, to be exact – include people who are “presumed to have been infected because of their symptoms and medical history,” according to two sources cited by the New York Times, which reported the deaths on Tuesday. These “probables” bring the total number of casualties for New York City to 10,367 and raise the nation’s total death toll by a whopping 17 percent. Over 26,000 people are now considered to have died with the coronavirus in the US, according to the Times.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio had initially declined to include the “probables” as coronavirus deaths but reportedly changed his mind after a weekend briefing, the sources said, adding that most of the presumed deaths took place in hospitals. While New York has tested more people per capita for coronavirus than anywhere else in the US, it joins several other sites – city health commissioner Oxiris Barbot named Connecticut, Ohio, Maryland, and Delaware – that began reporting “probable” cases as coronavirus deaths this week. Other sites, including California and Seattle, have limited their casualty counts to those that can be confirmed by testing.

Disagreements between local and regional health authorities over the number of coronavirus deaths have also been blamed on the use of “different data systems.” New York City authorities have complained that the state has dragged its feet sharing data from hospitals and nursing homes.

A similar decision to classify cases that haven’t tested positive as coronavirus was reported by the Times earlier this month. The oddly-worded piece claimed “experts said” that “a vast majority of people visiting emergency rooms with flu-like symptoms probably have the coronavirus.” Some city hospitals were no longer even bothering to test for influenza, instead assuming that everyone with flu-like symptoms was a coronavirus patient, an infectious disease specialist told the outlet.

The classification has raised more than a few eyebrows among medical professionals and laypeople alike. Minnesota state senator and physician Dr. Scott Jensen slammed as “ridiculous” the Centers for Disease Control guidelines advising doctors to list cause of death as coronavirus even in the absence of a test. “We are going to undermine the public trust,” he told Fox News last week, warning that the public’s “trust in politicians is already wearing thin.”

Aussie Cops Use Surveillance Helicopter To Track Down Remote Campers

Police in Tasmania are using a surveillance helicopter to track down people camping in remote locations in violation of coronavirus lockdown laws.

“Tasmania Police officers conducting aerial surveillance around the state, including on the North-West Coast located several campsites where people were directed to leave and return home,” reports The Advocate.

“When u social distance so well that the cops have to find u by helicopter,” tweeted Twitter user @PetiteNicoco.

17 people across the state were charged with a lockdown offense in a period of just 24 hours over the Easter weekend.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter “landed near campsites which were viewed from the air” to interrogate campers in the region. Where the chopper couldn’t land, officers were dispatched to the area on foot.

Commander Rob Blackwood called the campers “selfish” for endangering other people during the COVID-19 pandemic despite them literally being around no other people.

“Covert and marked police vehicles, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, will continue to undertake patrols around the state, so if you’re away from your primary residence you can expect police to stop and speak to you about your movements,” Tasmania Police said on their Facebook page.

The practice was denounced by many as absurd overkill given that the campers are hardly posing a threat to anybody.

“That seems like a waste of resources,” responded one Twitter user.

“You will do as commanded, even if you’re already doing it in the woods. Compliance is nonoptional. The state knows what is best, citizen,” commented another.

Florida Surgeon General Removed from Governor DeSantis’ Coronavirus Briefing After Saying Social Distancing Necessary Until There’s A Vaccine

Florida’s Surgeon General Scott A. Rivkees was removed from state Gov. Ron DeSantis’ cabinet coronavirus meeting today moments after stating that social distancing measures would need to continue until the creation of a vaccine. Video captured Rivkees’ comment and his subsequent removal by DeSantis’ Communications Director, Helen Aguirre Ferré.

In a video of his removal shared on Twitter, Rivkees responds to a question by stating, “So as long as we’re going to have COVID[-19] in the environment, and this is a tough virus, we’re going to have to practice these measures so that we are all protected.”

When asked how soon he expects a vaccine to emerge, Rivkees responds, “Based on what has been reported, probably a year if not longer is what some individuals have talked about.”

At this point, Ferré comes over to Rivkees and whispers a few times in his ear. Rivkees can be heard responding, “Okay,” several times. The second time that Ferré comes over to Rivkees, Rivkees then rises from his chair and then is accompanied out of the room by Ferré.

Newsweek has reached out to DeSantis’ office for comment. The office had not responded by the time of publication.

China approves trials for two more coronavirus vaccines

BEIJING: China has approved clinical trials for two more experimental vaccines to combat the novel coronavirus, officials said Tuesday, as the world's scientists race to beat the pandemic.

The vaccines use inactivated coronavirus pathogens, and the approvals pave the way for early-stage human trials, Wu Yuanbin, an official from China's Ministry of Science and Technology told a regular press briefing.

China's state food and drug administration on Monday approved one vaccine developed by a Beijing-based unit of Nasdaq-listed Sinovac Biotech, Wu said.

Another vaccine, being developed by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products and the Wuhan Institute of Virology, was approved on Sunday, he added.

China now has three different clinical trials for three possible coronavirus vaccines in the works.

Beijing approved the first trial for a vaccine developed by the military-backed Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Hong Kong-listed biotech firm CanSino Bio on March 16.

That day the US drug developer Moderna said it had begun human tests for their vaccine with the US National Institutes of Health.

"Vaccination of subjects during the first phase of clinical trials and the recruitment of volunteers for the second phase of clinical trials began on April 9," Wu said.

"It's the world's first novel coronavirus vaccine to initiate Phase II clinical studies."

There are currently no approved vaccines or medication for the Covid-19 disease, which has killed more than 120,000 people worldwide and infected nearly two million.

Chinese teams were also racing to develop vaccines using other methods including using attenuated influenza virus vectors or injecting specific nucleic acid.

Several of these projects are currently undergoing animal testing and quality inspections, Wu said.

Don’t trust Apple or Google with coronavirus data, says German app developer

A German app developer has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic gives Silicon Valley tech giants perfect cover to suck up personal data. However, while the government may intervene, the tech firms aren’t known for listening.

Apple and Google unveiled an app last week that uses bluetooth connections to trace the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Put simply, the app tracks whether a smartphone user has come in contact with another, infected, user. Similar apps rolled out in South Korea and Singapore have been credited with arresting the spread of the deadly pathogen.

In Europe, the rollout of such apps has been met with privacy concerns. "We do not think it is the best solution that Google and Apple own the server on which all the contacts plus the medical status of citizens around the world are uploaded," Julian Teicke, a leader of Germany's Healthy Together startup initiative, told Reuters on Tuesday.

"What we need is an independent party that allows governments some kind of control over what happens with this medical and contact data," he added.

The data collected will not be stored on a physical server in a physical location, but in cloud storage, where the firms insist it will be scrubbed of all personal signifiers and deleted after 14 days. By contrast, a German led platform — The Pan-European Privacy-Preserving Proximity Tracing (PEPP-PT) platform — would store data in a centralized location, and would comply with Europe’s GDPR data protection laws. Several European countries, including France, Germany and Ireland, are developing apps on the PEPP-PT platform.

However, almost every single smartphone in Europe uses Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS operating systems, and the two companies have said that the contact-tracing functionality will eventually be built into these operating systems by default.

Coast Guard finds $29 million of cocaine on fishing boat

The U.S. Coast Guard seized more than 1,700 pounds of cocaine worth about $29 million dollars last week from a fishing boat in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Central America.

Coast Guard sailors worked with Costa Rican authorities on the bust after the Coast Guard spotted the boat from a helicopter flying over international waters.

The cocaine was found in hidden compartments discovered aboard the fishing vessel.

U.S Surgeon General Adams DUMPS GATES ‘Predictive Contagion’ Model

In a stunning turn of events, Surgeon General Jerome Adams explained in an interview on live XM radio, that the Coronavirus Task Force has, effectively, dumped the Bill Gates/CDC/WHO predictive contagion model, and is now working with the real data.

He explained on the Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow, that given the new data, businesses will begin to re-open as early as May, others in June.

This runs contrary to the out-and-out fear-mongering of Dr. Fauci and Bill Gates who have made a media tour, threatening the public that businesses may not re-open for six months to a year, or until and unless governments purchase their conveniently patented, big-pharma vaccination.

According to Dr. Adams:

Before this about-face, which appears to have come as an order from the Trump administration in consultation with the findings of Dr. Adams, the task force was working with’predictive models’, which had been created by the Bill Gates dominated WHO and CDC. In those inflated, ‘fear-based’ models, the deaths of millions worldwide, and hundreds of thousands in America, were touted. These were used as the basis for what many experts have termed a ‘grossly disproportionate response‘.

Previously, the task force was working with predictive models, frequently criticized because of their tendency to exaggerate the possible effect of the virus on the United States. Models predicting the deaths of millions and hundreds of thousands in America appear to be overblown, as the real-time data is showing the death count much lower.

Adams said that the models usually took data from different cultures and places around the globe, but they were able to track more accurately what could happen in the United States based on real data gathered in places such as California and New York.

“We’re following this data every single day, and we’re giving that data to communities so that they can make informed and intelligent decisions about when and where to reopen,” he said.

A significant indicator for communities being allowed to reopen, Adams said, was actual testing data, not a predictive model.

“I feel confident that some places will start to reopen in May and June. Other places won’t; it will be piece by piece, bit by bit, but will be data-driven,” he said.

Adams praised South Korea and Singapore, which closed their borders early, just like the United States did with travelers from China. But he said there are lessons learned across the board.

Few acknowledge the mistakes that the WHO made

The Democratic National Committee immediately condemned President Donald Trump for the announcement on Tuesday that the U.S. was ending financial support for the World Health Organization, and social media followed suit.

The president listed the many mistakes and blunders of the WHO in his scathing statement at the beginning of the coronavirus task force media briefing at the White House.

The DNC focused instead on the coronavirus response from the Trump administration.

"In the middle of a global pandemic, Trump wants to stop funding the preeminent organization in charge of combating global pandemics," the statement read.

"Trump is willing to put global health further at risk to try to deflect blame from his own failures. But the American people know the truth: It was Trump who ignored warnings for months," they added.

"But the American people know the truth: It was Trump who ignored warnings for months while he praised China's 'transparency.' It is Trump who cut CDC staff in China who could have shared information about the pandemic. It is Trump's incompetence that continues to make this crisis worse than it had to be," the DNC statement concluded.

The online response

Other liberal critics of the president excoriated him on social media and accused him of trying to distract from his own failures.

"Pulling out of the WHO makes America less secure. It makes another pandemic more likely," said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).

"It only serves Trump's political interests," he added, "as he desperately grasps for a scapegoat to deflect attention from his fatal mishandling of this crisis."

"Freezing funding for the World Health Organization will only make it worse," claimed Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Former Obama staffer Ben Rhodes said Trump was causing "incalculable damage" to America's standing.

UN Chief Says It Is 'Not the Time' to Reduce WHO Resources to Fight COVID-19

The statement follows the announcement made by US President Doland Trump that the United States would halt funding for the World Health Organisation (WHO), which the president accused of mismanaging and covering-up the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday that it was not the time to reduce the WHO's resources to fight COVID-19.

"…it is also not the time to reduce the resources for the operations of the World Health Organisation or any other humanitarian organization in the fight against the virus", the official statement by the Secretary-General said.

Guterres has once again called on the international community to "work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences".

According to the latest situation update by the WHO, the number of COVID-19 cases has reached 1,844,000 globally, with over 117,000 people dying.

Statement by the Secretary-General on the World Health Organization

As I said on 8 April: “The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most dangerous challenges this world has faced in our lifetime. It is above all a human crisis with severe health and socio-economic consequences.

The World Health Organization, with thousands of its staff, is on the front lines, supporting Member States and their societies, especially the most vulnerable among them, with guidance, training, equipment and concrete life-saving services as they fight the virus.

It is my belief that the World Health Organization must be supported, as it is absolutely critical to the world’s efforts to win the war against COVID-19.

This virus is unprecedented in our lifetime and requires an unprecedented response. Obviously, in such conditions, it is possible that the same facts have had different readings by different entities. Once we have finally turned the page on this epidemic, there must be a time to look back fully to understand how such a disease emerged and spread its devastation so quickly across the globe, and how all those involved reacted to the crisis. The lessons learned will be essential to effectively address similar challenges, as they may arise in the future.

But now is not that time.”

As it is not that time, it is also not the time to reduce the resources for the operations of the World Health Organization or any other humanitarian organization in the fight against the virus.

As I have said before, now is the time for unity and for the international community to work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences.
