Prior to the cataclysms, our planet was tidally locked. All our land was situated on the "far side" of the planet. Also, we had a different "sun" back then, but we couldn't see it due to the configuration. Wasn't til after the moon crashed into our atmosphere that the main landmass split apart, and the Earth was forced out of it's tidally locked status, and "into the light" with "day & night". Or whatever.
Long story, but told in several different ways, over and over again. Eventually, we forgot the meaning, and now people use our ignorance to exploit us…
