"flattening the curve" will have zero effect on the eventual total number of infected (the area under the curve), so the ONLY thing it will accomplish is prolonging the time for the virus to run its course and fade away (broadening the curve).
and in the first place, it's the WRONG strategy to minimize the total number of infected. experts in infectious diseases, epidemiology, and biostatistics concur that the shutdown will increase the total number infected, and current factual evidence PROVES this hypothesis is CORRECT!
