As far as I have understood, the title comes from something Muhammad experienced.
Something along the lines of some verses/revelations that Muhammad thought came from Allah, but later figured must've come from the devil instead.

Salman Rushdie's book has made waves since 1988 – personally never read it, muslims were specifically angry at him and threatened to kill him etc, but I never considered it "satanic" (in any real sense).
