Disclosures: Russian Disinformation in Steele Dossier Fueled Collusion Probe by Obama, Comey, FBI

The FBI heavily relied on a Democrat-funded dossier by former British spy Christopher Steele to spy on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, even after learning that the document likely contained Russian disinformation, evidence declassified this week revealed.

On Wednesday, Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley (IA) and Ron Johnson (WI) released newly declassified footnotes from the December 2019 Department of Justice (DOJ) inspector general (IG) report about the FBI’s Russia collusion probe. The footnotes indicate that the FBI may have assisted Moscow in interfering in the American elections by relying on Russian disinformation contained in Steele’s infamous “pee dossier” to carry out its collusion investigation.

FBI officials began their investigation during former President Barack Obama’s administration while the agency, a component of DOJ, was under the leadership of James Comey. The probe, which ultimately found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, carried into the current administration.

Steele’s dossier served as the FBI’s primary source for its collusion allegations, even though the agency knew Russian disinformation had tainted the information in the document. In other words, the Democrat-funded, infamous “pee dossier” that fueled the FBI’s collusion investigation relied on Russian lies.

A press release issued by Grassley and Johnson on Wednesday noted:

Despite multiple reports in 2017 warning that claims in an anti-Trump dossier [by Steele] were “false” and “part of a Russian disinformation campaign,” the FBI continued to rely on the Democrat-funded opposition research to spy on a Trump campaign aide.

The two senators added in a joint statement:

As we can see from these now-declassified footnotes in the IG’s report, Russian intelligence was aware of the dossier before the FBI even began its investigation and the FBI had reports in hand that their central piece of evidence was most likely tainted with Russian disinformation.

[DOJ] Inspector General Michael Horowitz and his team did what neither the FBI nor Special Counsel Mueller cared to do: examine and investigate corruption at the FBI, the sources of the Steele dossier, how it was disseminated, and reporting that it contained Russian disinformation.

As early as July 2016, Russian operatives were aware that Steele was investigating then-presidential candidate Trump, the footnotes showed.

That year, the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democrat party hired Steele to compile information on the Trump-Russia collusion allegations.

FBI officials ignored warnings in January 2017 that Russian intelligence operatives may have targeted and collected data on Steele’s firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, the newly released information revealed.

According to the declassified footnotes, a February 2017 intelligence report also warned the FBI that Russian intelligence officers had infiltrated Steele’s network of sources that contributed to the dossier.

The most important question that still needs to be answered is who sent Australian diplomat to the UK Alexander Downer to meet with George Papadopoulos in the Spring of 2016?

Recall, Alexander Downer’s meeting with George Papadopoulos in a London pub in May of 2016 is was sparked the entire “Trump-Russia” probe.

Downer tipped off the FBI in a memorandum he wrote following his meeting with Papadopoulos.

Downer told the FBI that Papadopoulos claimed Russia had dirt on Hillary Clinton and they might release damaging information on her before election day.

Who sent Downer to meet with Papadopoulos?

“Durham knows,” said Papadopoulos in a tweet Thursday evening.

US Attorney from Connecticut John Durham was appointed by AG Bill Barr last May to investigate the origins of Spygate.

Durham is reportedly focusing on former CIA Director John Brennan and his role in Spygate and false statements he made to Congress.

‘Egregious’ And ‘Audacious’: CNN’s Big China Screw Up Is Part Of A Much More Insidious Problem, Experts Say

CNN is far from alone when it comes to boosting Chinese propaganda, but it’s home to the most recent example of American media pulling for China in the past few months.

The network experienced almost immediate backlash April 13 when it published a story in which the main source was a press release from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Stated clearly: CNN’s article reporting the Chinese Navy “has done a much better job controlling coronavirus than the US Navy” could hardly be told apart from the PLA press release it cited. It was an almost exact replica.

“There is a word for anyone who takes the word of an authoritarian regime, with a long record of lying, whether it was President Trump praising China’s clearly flawed response to Coronavirus or U.S. media repeating clearly bogus PLA talking points: Fool,” Peter Singer, a strategist and senior fellow at New America told the Daily Caller.

CNN’s propaganda push was “incredibly irresponsible” and “audacious,” Rebeccah Heinrichs at the Hudson Institute, added.

“It is not an exaggeration to say that it is Chinese communist party propaganda,” Heinrichs said of the article. “While we’re in the middle of this pandemic, there’s multiple things going on at the same time. One of them is a fight for clarity and accurate information. And we know that the Chinese government is still propagating false information and so for American media to not look at anything that comes out of China very skeptically … is so irresponsible.”

DHS Issues Environmental Waiver to Expedite New Border Wall System in Texas

WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a waiver, which will ensure expeditious construction of approximately 15 miles of new border wall system, consisting of five non-contiguous segments in locations where no barriers currently exist, within the U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector in Starr County, Texas.

The waiver was published in the Federal Register on April 15, 2020. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2020, pending availability of real estate. The contract for this project was awarded on March 13, 2020.

RGV is the busiest Sector in the nation and, for the FY to date, accounts for approximately 25% of the illegal alien apprehensions and ranks first in seized cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana along the southwest border. The majority of its activity is occurring in areas where RGV has limited infrastructure, access and mobility, and technology. This project will improve RGV Sector’s ability to impede and deny illegal border crossings and the drug and human smuggling activities of transnational criminal organizations.

DHS has been, and will continue coordinating and consulting with other federal, state, and local resource agencies and other interested stakeholders to ensure that potential impacts to the environment, wildlife, and cultural and historic resources are analyzed and minimized, to the greatest extent possible.”

FBI Captures Fugitive Less Than 12 Hours After Reward Announced

A suspect on the run from police in Charlevoix County is behind bars less then 12 hours after a $5,000 reward for his capture was announced. Dietz was found at a residence in Alpena, Michigan, following a tip called in by a member of the public

Matthew John Dietz was wanted for criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the town of Charlevoix. In September 19, 2018, he was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a child under 13 and two counts of accosting a child for immoral purposes. Dietz had been a fugitive since that time. On March 18, 2020, a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued. An FBI reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction was announced yesterday, April 15, 2020.

“Offenses against children are the worst type of crime that can be committed against members of our community,” said Special Agent in Charge Steven M. D’Antuono. “Despite being in the midst of a pandemic, the law enforcement agencies tasked with locating Dietz responded quickly to a viable lead because the severity of Dietz’s alleged offenses required it. We are grateful to the public for its assistance in locating Dietz so quickly. This is a great example of how the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community can work to get dangerous predators off the street.”

The FBI, Michigan State Police Fugitive Team, Huron Undercover Narcotics Team (HUNT), and the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Department were involved in Dietz’s arrest.

China's GDP Decreases By 6.8% in First Quarter of 2020 - National Bureau of Statistics

The Chinese economy has been undermined by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, but the country has shown signs of moderate improvement recently.

China's GDP has fallen by 6.8 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

"According to the preliminary estimates, the gross domestic product (GDP) of China was 20,650.4 billion yuan [about $3 trillion] in the first quarter of 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 6.8 percent at comparable prices", the bureau said in a report.

This is the first recorded GDP decrease in China since 1992, when Beijing started to publish official statistics.

The monthly report by OPEC on Thursday projected a severe recession in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with China being no exception. As China has managed to contain the spread of the coronavirus, it may experience GDP growth of 1.5 percent, the cartel said, which nevertheless is a huge decline from a growth rate of 6.1 percent in 2019.

The virus was first identified in the city of Wuhan, in China's Hubei province, later spreading to other countries. Worldwide, more than 2,153,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 and over 144,000 of them have died from the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University.
