The miracle of birth is not a slide at all anon. Many patriots out there wish for a baby and aren't as blessed. Not to take away from your blessing at all, just saying - it's definitely not a slide. We welcome great news and celebrate with you!

This. Anytime there's damage to the body and parts of the body are "minimized" or even taken away entirely the body will compensate and fill that part of the body with fluid, to try to maintain homeostasis and equilibrium.

COVID-19 Causes ground glass nodules in the lungs. It lessens the surface area (which you need a healthy surface area to breathe well) the lungs then become damaged and as you said fill with fluid. The ventilators with high flow oxygen end up causing more damage, not only because of the lack of surface area to the lungs, but also because of the bacteria that can settle in on the tubing of the ventilator (from the mouth, the mouth is so nasty and full of bacteria) and without proper cleansing can cause secondary infections.

Better outcomes are evident with NC (nasal cannula) and 4L-10L of oxygen.

There's been some worry about using Bi-Pap machines because of the airborne nature of the virus. Bi-Paps can cause the virus to become aerosolized from the patient into the room. If the patient wasn't in a negative pressure setting (strict isolation) this could cause issues. You also have to consider that aerosols and droplets can settle on anything, including PPE and skin, hair, etc.
