in many cases you can determine that there is embedded information present

but it can be extremely difficult to extract and decode that information without knowing what methods were used

and there are many methods and programs that can be used to embed text messages in graphic images

checksums & hash codes are a way to help insure that a file isn't corrupted

 

the file may look the same, be the same size etc… but if any bit was changed by design or by transmission error it almost always shows up as a difference in the checksum / hash
