There could be as many as 10 more Edmonton residents charged in a huge international child pornography investigation, a local police investigator said Wednesday.
"We have one other file on the go, and nine other files in waiting," said Staff Sgt. Howard Kunce, a member of the Northern Alberta Integrated Child Exploitation Team.
"Some of those persons do live in Edmonton, but we have not established enough information to positively identify the person we're going after at this time."
A 40-year-old Edmonton man is among nine Canadians who have been arrested as part of an ongoing international child abuse and internet child pornography investigation, code-named "Operation Koala," the RCMP announced Tuesday.
Police said the Edmonton man had a huge cache of child porn. Another 92 people have been arrested by authorities in Europe as part of Operation Koala.
The case involves videos of children being abused that were filmed mainly in a Ukraine studio and purchased by customers around the world.
In Canada, the investigation involves 18 law enforcement agencies in seven provinces and 40 municipalities.
RCMP would not estimate how long the local investigation will take.
"It's not something we can do with the flick of a switch or necessarily in one day," said Kunce. "Sometimes we can do it in one day. Sometimes it takes weeks. But you have to do a lot of homework before you can even begin to put together your search warrant to execute on a particular residence."
