The songs were completed. The play was in rehearsals, scheduled to open in May, but postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19. Schlesinger's work appeared to have been finished.

The next thing he was going to work on was songs for a musical version of the TV series, "The Nanny."

The four cast members who portrayed The Wonders in "That Thing You Do!" did a watch-along of the movie with them talking about it throughout via ZOOM. One thing that might be notable to anons is when they were filming scenes at the old Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles (which was no longer used as a hotel, but used for filming - also the site of RFK's assassination). They mentioned that there were TUNNELS under the hotel that connected the main hotel to cabanas in the back "where the ultra-rich and politicians used to stay." They were all young then, without much acting experience and they said they remember running around through the tunnels during filming.

That Thing You Do was filmed in 1995, so hotel was no longer active at that point. It was demolished in 2005. Wonder if the tunnels connected to anywhere else off-property?
