Director of Wuhan Laboratory Denies Coronavirus Link: Calls Allegations ‘Malicious, Impossible’

ncreasing claims a maximum security laboratory in China’s coronavirus ground-zero city of Wuhan is the source of the deadly global pandemic were rejected outright Saturday by the institute’s director.

Yuan Zhiming, vice director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, called the accusations a “conspiracy theory” in an interview with Chinese state broadcaster CGTN Saturday.

“As people who carry out viral study, we clearly know what kind of research is going on in the institute and how the institute manages viruses and samples. As we said early on, there is no way this virus came from us,” said Yuan, a microbiology and biotechnology expert.

“We have a strict regulatory regime and code of conduct of research, so we are confident.”

Beijing has come under increasing pressure over the lack of transparency in its handling of the pandemic, with the U.S. leading calls for an open and honest investigation into the matter.

Spain Virus Deaths Rise by the Fewest in Almost a Month

pain reported the smallest increase in the number of coronavirus deaths in four weeks on Sunday, while new infections slowed compared with previous days.

Coronavirus deaths rose by 410 to 20,453 on Sunday, that’s the smallest one-day increase since March 22, when 394 people died, according to Spain’s Health Ministry daily report.

In total 195,944 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus in Spain, with 4,218 new cases detected in the past 24 hours. That’s a decline after four consecutive days with new cases above 5,000. The number of people cured rose to 77,357, authorities reported.

Michael Cohen writing tell-all book on Trump to be released before election: report

Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for President Trump, has reportedly been working on a tell-all book scheduled to be released before November's presidential election.

The book, which Cohen has been writing and shopping to publishers from prison, will “spill the beans” on the president, Cohen's friend, actor Tom Arnold, told The Daily Beast.

“It’s like 'Jaws.' You don’t see 'Jaws' very much, but you hear the music, and for Trump, he knows Michael is coming and Trump better hear the 'Jaws' music,” Arnold said. “He told me he’s been writing a book and he’s pissed. He told me he is going to spill the beans. What has he got to lose now?”

Cohen is being released from prison early because of the coronavirus and will finish the rest of his three-year sentence in home confinement….

World Health Guru Says Don’t Bet on Covid-19 Vaccine

The threat of the coronavirus may linger “for the foreseeable future” because there’s no guarantee a vaccine can be developed, a leading expert on the disease has said, according to the U.K.’s Observer newspaper.

David Nabarro, professor of global health at London’s Imperial College and an envoy for the World Health Organization on Covid-19, offered the warning as the number of U.K. hospital deaths from the virus surpassed 15,000.

“Some viruses are very, very difficult when it comes to vaccine development - so for the foreseeable future, we are going to have to find ways to go about our lives with this virus as a constant threat,” he said.

U.K. Care Home Deaths Much Higher Than Reported, Study Says

The number of deaths in U.K. care homes caused by the coronavirus is much higher than official figures reported so far, according to the National Care Forum.

The NCF report estimates that more than 4,000 elderly and disabled people may have died from coronavirus in residential and nursing homes, according to a report dated April 18. The report showed a doubling of coronavirus related deaths in U.K. care homes within just one week, with the NCF highlighting “significant flaws in the current national reporting” amid calls for more accurate data linked to virus-related deaths, Saturday’s report said.

Official care home deaths stand at 217, according to the Office of National Statistics, but the actual number is higher, according to Health Sectretary Matt Hancock. Collecting data on deaths outside hospitals is more time consuming, Hancock said at a hearing on Friday.
