LOCKDOWN MASTERPLAN Scientists draw up top-secret

‘traffic light’ system to ease Britain out of lockdown

"Ministers have refused to discuss publicly when and how they aim to end the £2.5billion-a-day lockdown, entering its fourth week on Monday.

They fear doing so would send out the message that the crisis is over and wreck all the hard-won gains. But they are privately considering slowly easing off the brake.

In the “red” phase, people will still be banned from many things they did before the outbreak, but a number of non-essential shops and businesses would re-open.

On “amber”, caution would still be required despite much more economic activity being unlocked."

Are US Businesses Ready to Reopen as Coronavirus Still

Looms

Voice of America

19 Apr 2020, 16:05 GMT+10

"WASHINGTON - The White House has announced a three-phase plan for restarting the U.S. economy, but experts said the continuing lack of vital public health tools to fight COVID-19 mean it's risky to even move to phase one.

Lack of capacity to test for the coronavirus and a lack of staff to trace people who may be infected mean the United States may not be ready to reopen without risking major blowback, experts said.

"There is a distinct risk that we will just bump straight back up and we'll see a brisk increase in the number of infections," said John Lynch III, a University of Washington infectious diseases professor and a board member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Starting with California on March 19, governors began issuing orders closing businesses, canceling events and urging people to stay home.

The toll on the U.S. economy has been devastating. More than 20 million people have filed for unemployment benefits. With political pressure building to get people back to work, the Trump administration Thursday issued guidelines for lifting social distancing requirements.

Under the new guidelines, states showing a "downward trajectory" of cases over 14 days can move into the first phase, which includes reopening large venues such as movie theaters, sports stadiums and religious institutions "under strict physical distancing protocols." Employers can bring workers back "in phases." Restrictions ease further in phases two and three.

Loosening restrictions depends on having a "robust testing program" for health care workers and screening for people with possible symptoms of COVID-19. It also calls for specialized sites to be screening asymptomatic people for the virus that causes the disease."

Michigan Governor Caves to Pressure and Protest, Says

She’ll Reopen State May 1st

"Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said on Friday she is hopeful the state can begin to reengage parts of its economy beginning on May 1, days after facing a barrage of criticism for her strict measures to combat the new coronavirus.

Later on Friday, President Donald Trump, who has traded jabs with Whitmer over the state’s handling of the outbreak, tweeted: “Liberate Michigan,” along with similar tweets naming other states with Democratic governors.

Trump did not mention Ohio, whose Republican governor has set a similar target for economic reopening. The chair of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, has criticized Whitmer, saying she was turning Michigan into a “police state”."

Huawei Faces Mounting Opposition in UK as Distrust in

Beijing Grows

BY CATHY HE

April 19, 2020 Updated: April 19, 2020 Print

Voices are growing within UK’s ruling party to block Chinese telecom giant Huawei from helping to build the country’s 5G network, as the government signals a tougher stance towards Beijing over its handling of the CCP virus pandemic.

The UK government in January granted Huawei a role in building non-sensitive parts of its next-generation wireless network, and capped its involvement at 35 percent. But since then, mounting opposition from within the ruling Conservative Party has raised doubts that the measure can raise enough votes to pass through parliament, Bloomberg reported. A bill formalizing January’s decision is expected to be introduced in the coming months.

The campaign against Huawei comes amid wider calls within the Tory Party for a reset of relations with China’s communist regime over its role in covering up the COVID-19 outbreak, which fueled the global spread of the virus."

China needs to be accountable about coronavirus spread

Pompeo

ANI

19 Apr 2020, 13:57 GMT+10

"Washington [US], April 19 (ANI): Accusing China of hiding facts regarding coronavirus, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo on Saturday said President Xi Jinping led government needs to be accountable and should tell how COVID-19 spread rapidly around the world.

Speaking to Fox News, Pompeo said, "We really need the Chinese government to open up. They say they want to cooperate. One of the best ways they could find to cooperate would be to let the world in, to let the world scientists know exactly how this came to being and exactly how this virus began to spread.""The leadership there knew about the virus before they took the public writ large. That's dangerous. A lot of cases, a lot of movement, a lot of travel around the world before the Chinese Communist Party came about what really transpired there. These are the kind of things that open government democracies don't do. It's why there is such risk associated with the absence of transparency," he added."
