I get where you're coming from, but at a practical level, wearing a mask can still be a good idea for the purpose of defeating the DS's facial recognition tech.
In Asian countries where mask-wearing is common (due to air pollution, dust on the roads, etc.), there are laws requiring people to remove their masks when they enter a store, in order to deter shoplifting. Folks were more likely to shoplift if they thought the store cameras wouldn't be able to register their face.
Wearing a face mask at a protest could also be a good idea considering the CCP will be sending their people to these protests (possibly with new strains of the virus, or some other pathogen) to infect the protesters and make an example of them. A face mask helps protect you from these bastards.
But in the big picture, yeah, the USA should never become a mask-wearing nation.
