Coronavirus: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani 'in isolation as staff infected'
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is in self-isolation after dozens of members of staff at the country's presidential palace tested positive for coronavirus, according to media reports.
Twenty cases were initially reported, but on Sunday the New York Times said the number had risen to 40.
The Afghan government has not commented and there is no suggestion the president himself has been infected.
Mr Ghani, 70, reportedly lost part of his stomach to cancer in the 1990s.
"Twenty-odd people are infected with COVID-19 in the presidential palace. However, it is [being] kept under wraps to ensure no panic is caused," one government official told AFP on Saturday.

Senators Propose $500 Billion State and Local Government Rescue
A Republican and a Democrat in the Senate are proposing a $500 billion fund for state and local governments as part of the next comprehensive rescue package from Congress, to aid parts of the country reeling from the coronavirus pandemic.
As Democratic leaders and the Trump administration negotiate an interim infusion of aid to small businesses, Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey and his Republican colleague Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana are looking further ahead.

Less than a day after President Trump mentioned at a coronavirus press briefing that he received "a nice note" from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the remote country denied any recent correspondence between the two.
The president made the comments during a press briefing on COVID-19 Saturday, where he added that the U.S. would have been at war with North Korea if he had not been elected.
“I received a nice note from him recently. It was a nice note," Trump said. "I think we’re doing fine.”
