The catholic papal infallibility doctrine says that the pope is only infallible when he is speaking from st. peter's chair. This is not generally understood to be literal, but to limit the topics he can speak on with that authority. If a Pope says "Shredded Wheat is the best cereal" it does not imply that this is true under the authority of God.
