Popular oil ETF USO halted for news pending as crude prices extend ugly drop
Trading in United States Oil Fund LP USO, -10.92%, one of the most popular was for retail investors to gain exposure to crude-oil futures CL.1, +87.61%, was halted Tuesday before the opening bell for news pending. The ETF had been down more than 20% in premarket trade before the halt and has been under severe pressure as oil has been beaten down due to oversupply and a lack of storage. The most actively traded June contract on Tuesday CLM20, -28.29% was down nearly 30% at $14.38 a barrel, a day after the front-month May contract CLK20, +87.61% CL.1, +87.61% staged a historic plunge to close in negative territory for the firs time ever. USO is down more than 70% so far this year, as of Monday's close.
