The murder took place on Sunday morning at approximately 8 am when a 25-year-old Sudanese man attacked and stabbed the victim, Rik van de Rakt, with a knife while he cycling to work, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports.
Moments after the senseless attack had occurred, Rik van de Rakt’s lifeless body was reportedly discovered by a passerby. From there it didn’t take long for police officers to locate the perpetrator and arrest him. The 25-year-old, who holds asylum status and lives in Heesch, is said to have been found by authorities in a ‘confused state’ with the murder weapon still in his pocket.
Apparently, the suspect was no stranger to police as he had caused problems in the area before. Immediately before or after asylum seeker stabbed the 18-year-old Dutch boy, he is said to have attacked a young woman who fortunately managed to escape. It appears as though the Sudanese migrant was simply roaming around the town, looking for random victims.
Police are still on the hunt for anyone that may have witnessed either of the attacks. As of this report, authorities have not ruled out a terrorist motive.
