Basically using two currents to complete the EM wave to fill all 4 quadrants. This would make the central unit circle spiral to be two of them at 90 degree angles creating a virtual EM field in the imaginary dimension.
I already posted the best unit circle gif showing it as a spiral with the reflection of the Electric wave on the vertical and the magnetic on the horizontal. Think of that spiral/unit circle as existing in the imaginary plane. spin it 90 degrees so it projects the waves on the other two faces of the square and that unit circle/spiral is the 'returning out of phase EM wave.
