Not being a medical guy, but having looked a bit at the anatomy of the lung, I don't see a way of getting UV light into that weirdly complex network of capillaries, alveoli and what not.

Not talking about sanitizing hands & stuff with UV light or even air – but getting it into all the affected parts of the lung (to "cure") to me is highly questionable.

My guess is that these scientists are trying their best to be diplomatic, just like the S&T guy who simply said "yes", when Trump asked if skin would be "semi-non-porous".

I shouldn't be replying, because I don't know. But my guess is neither do you.

Still, I have doubts that "photopheresis" would remove/kill enough of the virus in the affected parts of the lungs/nose/pharynx etc to be a real "cure".
