Hundreds more training to ramp up contact tracing in Washington state

q13fox.com/2020/04/22/hundreds-more-being-trained-in-washington-state-to-ramp-up-contact-tracing-to-contain-covid-19/

SEATTLE – Whenever you leave your house, health experts want you to keep a mental log of who you are around so that contact tracing is possible.

The idea is to box in the virus quickly by telling people to isolate themselves if they were in close contact with a person with COVID-19. The state says no one will find out the identity of the positive person.

The Washington Department of Health says there are 700 people trained ready to do contact tracing with 800 more in the pipeline to become investigators. Secretary of Health John Wiesman says many of those newly trained will be from the National Guard.

The endeavor will certainly be a challenging one, especially if cases go back up.

That’s why many believe a new kind of tracking system by Google and Apple is promising.

The tech giants are expected to launch an app so governments can track people through the use of their phones.

Government scientists say sunlight, heat and humidity could kill coronavirus

komonews.com/news/coronavirus/government-scientists-say-sunlight-heat-and-humidity-could-kill-coronavirus

Government scientists say sunlight, heat and humidity may have a “powerful” impact on killing the coronavirus within one or even two minutes.

President Donald Trump is touting the power of sunlight against the coronavirus, in new research from the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate.

“The whole concept of the light the way it kills in one minute that’s pretty powerful,” said President Trump.

S & T Director Bill Bryan said hotter temperatures, humidity and sunlight kills the virus in saliva droplets on surfaces and in the air.

The virus dies the quickest in the presence of direct sunlight under the conditions studied, Bryan said.

“Our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus both surfaces and in the air,” said Bryan. “We’ve seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favorable to the virus.”
