So I’m digging on Trump’s comments about the disinfectant being injected.
All the disinfectant people have come out and said, “You dumbass.”
So I dug some more.
The difference between an antiseptic and a disinfectant is that an antiseptic is (used on the skin and with the body) and a disinfectant is used on “non-living” surfaces. The differences between the two appear to be the amount of dilution of the chemical. Here’s some info on that from Healthline.
If you want to do more nit-picking through clinical things on the research they’ve done on how these agents affect people who appear to be antibiotic resistant, here’s one article from (not joking Lumen Learning—Light!): https://courses.lumenlearning.com/microbiology/chapter/testing-the-effectiveness-of-antiseptics-and-disinfectants/
So I think there is a semantics issue going on here between Trump’s use of the word disinfectant.
So I dug further to see what some of the chemicals are in these products, and it appears that the FDA banned 24 ingredients in OTC (over the counter) anticeptics on December 20, 2018. The link to this story from the Healthline article is now a dead link.
I pulled up a story on this December 20, 2018 store here https://www.aafp.org/news/health-of-the-public/20171222triclosanban.html and it talks about the ban. Triclosan is one of the things banned. They agreed to defer 1 year (until December 20, 2019 making a decision on these six):
• alcohol (ethanol),
• isopropyl alcohol,
• povidone-iodine,
• benzalkonium chloride,
• benzethonium chloride, and
• chloroxylenol (PCMX)
I haven’t yet dug to see if they made a decision 12/19 or deferred there decision again because they were in the middle of this shitstorm.
Follow the money they said. This is how the FDA makes money on these things when they come off patent. These ingredients that they have banned, have to undergo more study and trials now and the FDA said, “Health care antiseptic drug products containing one or more of the non-GRASE active ingredients will be considered new drugs for which marketing will require approved new drug applications. Manufacturers will have one year to comply with this final rule by reformulating these products or removing them from the market. Based on the proposed rule, the FDA said manufacturers have already started removing these ingredients from their products.”
Last bit on the Triclosan, it appears it was in a bunch of shit since the 60s. Another one these “first it was used as a pesticide,” then brought into preservatives and into things like tooth-paste. The FDA says it’s among the things killing the good bacteria in people’s stomachs. Here’s another article on it: https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/what-is-triclosan#1
So I think The Donald has more than just energy geniuses in his family, I’m convinced he’s got some medical experts in there as well. Who knows, maybe he’s using Project Looking Glass to talk to Marie Curie. I have to believe there is more to this than just a shitty word choice on the part of the President because I think he chooses his words carefully.
