James Gunn is a satanist, and his faithfulness to the sick cult of lucifer is clearer in the second installment of Gaurdians of the Galaxy (Vol 2). There are a lot of luciferian beliefs woven into the story of that film. Kurt Russell plays Ego, aka "god", which is in the character's own words the small-g "god" (as opposed to "God"). Even Ellen spells the name with a small "g."

And notice that Gomorrah is the first to discover the cavern of skeletons on Ego's planet. After which, they learn that Ego has been sacrificing all his children in teh search for his "son" with the "celestial gene" which will help him take over the universe (ie., the search for the anti-christ). It's the metaphysical explanation for why they sacrifice allt heir own children.

Such a shame because the Guardians films are the best films in teh Marvel franchise. Funny and smart with perfect casting. Oh, and such a shame about the hundreds of millions of victims of the satanic cult in real life too.
